New Onn tablo app issue

I can’t watch my NBC local news series recording this morning. ONN Tablo app freezes up and reboots with issues decoding video. Message indicates it’s usually due to poor reception. What’s strange is it I could watch this episode perfectly on my Android phone tablo app so the actual recording is good on the tablet device. I can watch other recordings on the ONN tablo app. I tried power reset on everything and it still does the same thing. It seems only to be affecting this series. Episodes that I watched cleanly yesterday are unwatchable today. Any ideas?

Sorry you’re running into this. It sounds like a network or connection issue between the Tablo, your router, and your non-working device. If you haven’t already, try rebooting them all including your router - router first, Tablo second, and device third.

I found that this even worked fine on an older Amazon Fire tv. However anytime I watched a recorded episode of our local NBC News the Tableau app on the ONN device crashed and Rebooted. I was able to resolve this problem by uninstalling the Tablo app and reinstalling. Weird how this only affected one recorded series.

I reported this earlier and thought it was fixed by reinstalling the Tablo app. But that fix was temporary. Every morning I wake up and watch the recorded local NBC news. It starts then the picture freezes then the audio cuts out and the Tablo app restarts (blue logo). Uninstalling and reinstalling the app fixes the problem temporarily. The same thing happens the next morning. The recording is fine on the Tablo 4th gen because I could view it on my Android phone and on an older fire tv. So this is definitely a frustrating bug.

That sounds odd.

@Gerard_Salem - Can you try going to SETTINGS and removing NBC from your channel lineup and hitting save, then run a fresh channel scan, re-add NBC and hit save?

If that doesn’t do the trick, consider contacting Tablo Support.

If you do, please DM us with your email address and/or ticket number.

How many episodes of the NBC News are on your Tablo. I had a problem with a couple of shows that had a large amount of episodes on my Tablo 4G with 5 TB drive. It would crash when starting to watch an episode. I had noticed that I had increasing issues as the amount of episodes increased until eventually I couldn’t play an episode. I deleted all but 20 episodes of these 2 shows and everything worked properly and speedy. I had 2.1 TB of programs and after deleting the programs, now have 1.4 TB used. Apparently the performance suffers with a large amount of recorded episodes. Does anybody else have 5 TB or more of recordings with no problems.

Thanks Tablo for reaching out with the support option. I will use that option if I can’t solve. I use “keep last five recordings”. So not an extreme number of episodes. I have a 2tb of space with 60% available. Yesterday I deleted the five recordings and canceled the series recording. Then I added the series recording back. I’m watching NBC local news this morning with no issues

If this comes back I will reach out for support. What strange is I was able to watch these episodes on my Android phone and on a Fire TV. Just the ONN device was affected.

That’s been my problem with the ONN and Fire (android) app. I want to keep all 293 episodes of Blue Bloods. But, after about 50, the app starts locking up and will eventually cause a system lockup, requiring a reboot of the tablo. Roku works fine. I reported this to support a few months ago, apparently not on high priority fixes. Android app also has a bug when viewing library - all recordings. When scrolling, get ‘failed to load content’ error.

I’m also having an issue with recordings not playing (I have ~5.5GB worth of recordings on a 10TB HDD). It plays around 5 seconds and then it goes back to the Tablo loading screen, sometimes says no connection, no Tablo device found. I noticed it works well on my Roku TCL 50S535 and an Amazon fire tablet. I thought it was an issue with my Firestick 4K Max so I purchased an Onn 4K Plus but the issue persists. I will see if I can try a Roku device to see if it works on there. Can the developers please look into this. Thanks.

Do you have a USB powered SSD/HDD? or a does your ssd/hdd have its down power cord?

I had this weird issue too until I bought a USB adapter with its own power cord. IDK if that just a red herring. But I have not had any quirky issues like that anymore.

I have mostly Rokus and Onn boxes. They both had this issue too. Until the adapter swap.

Yes, the HDD is in a docking station that has its own power. Which Onn box do you have?

Fire TV 4K Max (2nd gen) & Onn 4K Plus

  • Does not play recordings
-Live TV works, but if you rewind and try to watch, every 10-20 minutes or so it will stop and go back to the home screen.

*No issues playing recorded content on an iPhone, android phone or fire tablet.

The TV is an old Samsung UN55C7000

I have an WD 2TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive which has no external power. Just the USB. I also have the lower cost onn device. Since I erased all recordings from the series unstopped the series recording then restarted the serious recording it’s been working fine.

Do you have a link to this adapter. My drive gets its power from the Tablo?

Hi, the hard drive USB is plugged into the tablo 4th gen to store additional recorded content. The onn device has no additional storage. It just gets power from a usb port and outputs hdmi for the TV.

Kim said he used an adapter. Looking for a link to this adapter.

Did you get a resolution to this? I am having the same issue with my Roku
