New models (2025)?

Does anyone think that there could be new TabloTV models coming? I asked this because the last time prices were this low. They came out with a new model 60+ days later has anyone heard anything about one coming??

Not now, but there will be an ATSC 3 Quad Tablo sometime in 2026 pretty sure. Probably not streaming at first and hdmi connected to only 1 TV like TiVo and Zapperbox.

Is that speculation, or you’ve actually heard something? I had agreed to be a beta tester for the original rollout of the ATSC 3.0 Tablo before that was cancelled.

I’d be very surprised if there’s something in 2026… unless it’s so distant (like “there will be a device… some day”). If “soon”, I can pretty much guarantee it will be hideous (and very temporal).

For me, any new Tablo that cannot support connection to my home wi-fi is a nonstarter.

I bought Tablo gen 4 because it can be easily moved to various locations along with my indoor antenna, and can then be network connected to my STB and TV.

Networking support is at the top of my list, above free guide, purchase price, and anything else.

I’m still worried about ATSC 3.0 with the darn DMR crap. OTA broadcast should never be allowed to be restricted!

I wanted to buy a Gen 4 to replace my Legacy, but I hear the FCC green lighted ATSC 3 and that the OTA TV stations can switch over whenever they want. With that said I’m going to wait as my Legacy works fine and thinking a Gen 4 would be useless in a year or so.

The idea that everyone is going to ditch their expensive 4K OLED they bought a year or so ago…??? I mean, maybe there are “those”… but have a feeling that once it becomes viable (that is, something ATSC 3 is not today), that it will still be many many years before people will be compelled to move. What has to happen is for everything to be available ATSC 3 and then for all new TVs to all come with ATSC 3 tuners (all). Then, after about 2-3 years, yes, maybe then the deprecation of reasonable content on ATSC 1 will begin. I still think we’re at least 2 years from the start date, which puts ATSC 1.0 as the majority for likely at least another 5 years. And yes… the NextgenTV people are idiots.

Yup if all the new rules were decided tomorrow , and all the contracts signed the next day, it would still take years to get the changes done——or even just started.

If my 2 gen4’s burned out tomorrow, I’d just get some new ones (refurb this time :slightly_smiling_face:) in full (well 99%) confidence I could use them for years more and miss nothing.

I am trying to remember how many years PopSciMag, bless its soul, ran articles promising HDTV “next year.” Maybe 20? Why should Nextgen be different?

I agree. I do suspect they might “maintain” the primary “.1” ATSC 1.0 signals, but at 480i, standard definition likely hoping that their antenna viewers who have become accustomed to their entertainment and sporting events in HD will “seek” the better resolution via upgrade to ATSC 3.0 equipment. Honestly that probably would get some of them.

I thought the National Association of Broadcasters(NAB) was proposing the mandatory switch over to ATSC 3.0 and a time line.

Since NAB owns the local TV stations does it make sense to propose something that couldn’t happen.

Tablo still charges legacy users for guide?
A couple years of legacy guide can buy a Gen4 with free guide. Seems an easy choice?

There was a notice where they are looking into many options for ATSC3. They are mainly getting ready to hear from everyone.

Understood. But if you can’t use ATSC 3 (which is the truth today), does it matter?

I don’t put much stock into this particular site.

I watch his site for over-view but he does jump the gun of doom at times. But it still give me information to go delve more in if I so choose.
