I just bought a new FireTV device and it is no longer Android based it seems. Looks like there is no new Tablo app available, only the older Tablo app.
So must get a Tablo app for it or I really can’t use it much.

You may need to stop at Walmart and pick up an ONN streaming box. Connect it to your TV and that will get you going.
Hi @rkkeller ,
Unfortunately, the new Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Select isn’t currently compatible.
We cover it here: Tablo Q&A – Will Tablo Support the New Amazon Fire TV Stick? - Tablo TV
Will you be developing for the Vega OS?
It’s something we’re currently working on. Unfortunately, we can’t give an ETA on it.
Stay away from that stupid Fire TV Select thing with Vega OS. Many of the reviews are rather poor. Just get a regular Fire TV device, or some other brand.
Here are a few articles on it
Do you know if existing Fire Sticks are safe from being updated to Vega OS? I wouldn’t want that on my new 4K Max device.
So far, there is no indication they will update (downgrade?) existing models.
Has amazon ever upgraded fire tv sticks from the original OS release to a newer OS release.
Generally, Fire TV’s do not update their major OS versions from what they are shipped with. They just get point updates.
It’s entirely possible if, as a company, they want more control, proprietary or not, over all their devices and they’re willing to update all to be on the same standard. Companies do this and it could be a problem for the smaller apps and their users.
I own a fire tv stick 4k gen 1 which runs fire os 6 android 7.1. Isn’t vega OS linux based? Do you think amazon has the technical expertise to upgrade android 7.1 to the latest linux release without bricking it.
I don’t know anything about Vega OS. Why couldn’t they change the OS?
I said upgrade from an android release to a linux based release. they could always find a way to perform a total reset and OS reinstall. But what happens to all your settings and apps which now must be certified apps of the same version in the amazon store.
Many people side load apps.
FWIW, it looks almost identical to the Android screens, even the main apps like YT, Netflix and all that look and work the same.
If you did not know this was not Android, besides the lack of apps
you might not even realize it. Especially if you don’t sideload, most will never even notice the changes.
I did not mention, this was only for testing it out, have my main device already. This is a low end model not even Dolby Vision or wifi 6.
For power users Amazon ruined Firesticks many months ago. When they disabled adb debugging they crippled power users. I keep the few I have but have switched over to Android/Google TV box(s) because they pledge to run pure Android and leave the power users alone. My viewing and screens are privately configured and I see no Ads and have almost complete control of my experiences. BTW ---- Tablo’s (legacy) apk runs perfectly on pure Android for me.
I know this is a Tablo forum but surely there are experienced users here and I am advising those to ditch Firesticks or learn to live with AMAZON’S interpretation of what your viewing should look like. Even the older Firestick hardware is so crippled compared to what I have.
Amazon won’t update the Android OS to Vega. They’ll just let the old OS systems fade away and introduce any new hardware with the new Vega OS. WalMart’s Onn streaming boxes appear to be the way to go for the future.
