NEW badge not showing in library listing for series

With the new update (Roku app version 0.8.800-734366), the library listing no longer shows me whether an episode is new or whether I have watched it. I have to actually select the episode in order to see the NEW badge.

I tried submitting a support request, and the automated response told me that the NEW badge would only appear on individual episodes, and referred me to this link:

The thing is, that is NOT how it works now. The individual episodes in my library do NOT show the NEW badge.

Personally I preferred the previous interface where all the episodes of a series were collected when I went to Latest and clicked an episode. Now I have to go down to TV Shows, select the show, and get the listing of episodes. But even there the NEW badge does not show up on individual episodes. I need to then select an episode to see whether it is new.

All in all this is just a bad change that makes me hunt blindly for new episodes in a series. And the support links don’t even reflect reality after this change. That gives me hope that somebody will say “Oops, the support link is how it is supposed to work, and we screwed up. We will fix that and get the NEW badge showing on individual episodes again.”

It’s like being in an episode of the twilight zone. You just can’t stop yourself from taking that exit.

This, and a few other bugs, have been identified in the new Roku app release. You can find discussion of them in the thread called ‘Roku Tablo 4th Gen App Update (v. 0.8.800).’ They are working to address them.

Thanks for a useful and informative response. Much appreciated.

Indeed, this is an issue we’re aware of an will be addressing shortly.

Also to note, we are changing how some layouts and designs are done throughout the apps. The intent is to no longer have the New badges on ‘unwatched’ episodes, but instead display completed progress bars beneath the image.

I’m not seeing that. I wonder if that is because fully watched programs are being ‘hidden.’ I will have to experiment when I get home. If the progress bar is nice and clear I think that would be okay… but I kinda liked the ‘New’ badge.

That will be awesome. I know that UI changes are always tricky – one person’s “Great improvement!” is another’s “I’m cranky and I hate change!”. But from my perspective, progress bars are super helpful. I appreciate the update.

I assume if someone is in the next room watching the episode the progress bar is real time.
