It would be nice if the broadcasters included a signal to indicate when commercials start and stop, but that is VERY unlikely to happen for obvious reasons.

Broadcasting sales rep, to sponsor - yup, pay up a whole bunch of money and we’ll play your [annoying] advertising commercial. Well, ya, we have enabled technology so viewers won’t even have to see it.

I’d bet there is absolutely no likelihood it will ever be a reality.

In fact, it’s gone the other way. If you watch The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, you’ll notice that the first commercial of the evening is letterboxed in such a way that most commercial skip algorithms will miss it.
