The priority of series recordings determines the default handling of tuner conflicts, in that the higher-priority recording wins and takes the tuner. Currently, series recordings have a fixed priority based on the order in which they were created. There is no way to edit these priorities, so they don’t have much value unless you had the foresight to create every series recording in the perfect order the first time.
The user should be presented with a list of all series recordings displayed in the current order of priority, with the ability to select any one of them and manually move it to a new priority slot. This simple user interface would be enormously useful to ensure we don’t miss recordings of high-priority content.
With my four-tuner, I rarely get conflicts, but when I do, the “show me the conflicts” screen is quite useful. I usually don’t need to make an adjustment, but if I do, I can simply delete and re-add the program that I want to have higher priority. Still, an adjust priority interface, like TiVo had would be very helpful.
A solution for legacy users is to do manual recordings to solve your issue. IF you have a show you MUST record without exception then create a manual recording and start it a few minutes early. That way it grabs a tuner and is going before any conflict happens and will surpass the otherwise conflict. I don’t get many conflicts with a quad but this is what I do for my “must see” series stuff. Common sense means you need to look and make sure you are not creating a conflict by starting a show early, but I expect you to give me that one, LOL!
The BIGGEST complaint I have about the Gen 4 is no manual recordings. My God why was this not solved years ago? [thumb down].
I am running the latest firmware on my legacy quad and it smokes in the best way using the legacy app. I have one news channel where anything but a manual recording just flat out screws up every single day. Using a manual recording and its like a swiss watch!
You don’t necessarily need to create a manual recording to solve conflicts. Just go to Recording Options and set the start time to 2-,5-,or 10 minutes early. If you only have a few that conflict, you can also set the start time per episode.
This won’t help for the channels that have constantly screwed up their programming, but there is not much you can do there except report it to Tablo and pray Gracenotes fixes it.
