New user of Tablo, using Roku app. Recorded a movie in its entirety and was navigating the thumbnails for the end of commercials. So far, so good. I used the arrow keys to select the last thumbnail before content resumed. I selected it, and there was a brief moment of what appeared to be resuming playback. After probably about a half-second, I was taken back to the START of the recording. Thought that was strange. Did it again. Then again. Same results. But as far as I can tell, it was just the one “magic thumbnail” that did this. I left the Roku app, and navigated the thumbnails to a new starting location so I could resume the movie. Out of curiosity, I went back to the “magic thumbnail” again, and now it takes me back to the new session’s “starting location” again, instead of the start of the movie. Wondering if anyone else has experienced finding a “magic thumbnail”? It works somewhat like a hypertext link on a webpage.
That is a weird glitch. No, I haven’t heard of that before.
Was the recording on a FAST chan?
That’s a good question (and had to look up what FAST means
) but will check that out tonight and get back to you. I think this stood out in my mind because it’s the first program I’ve recorded with Tablo that has thumbnails, and it was at the very end of the first ad break, and I was hoping it is an anomaly (and not a FEATURE heh, heh).
FREE ADD SUPPORTED TV. There. Are anomalies with some individual FAST chans. For example, some programs recorded on the Space Science Now chan act crazy. I can fast forward from the beginning and it will run out a couple of minutes, 2:20 for example, then pause on it’s own. If I let it play to 10 minutes and hit ff, it drops back to the familiar 2:20 point and pause again. When I take it out of pause, it continues playing fron the 10 minute point where I hit ff.
Rewind behavior is different hit rewind at any point beyond the magic 2:20 point and it drops back to 2:20 and rewinds from there.
I have had that happen on occasion. As I get closer to the end of the recording when I click on one of the last few tiles it jumped back to the beginning. It does not happen that often so I think it is a glitch in the Roku app playback…thinking that it is done. Again this has only happened very randomly. If it happens every time for you then I think it warrants a support ticket and let Tablo look at your log files.
I’ve been holding this one until I finish my research.
It happens every time, but only on that specific thumbnail. So that’s interesting. Any other thumbnail I tried has appeared to work just fine - as expected. Mind you, I wasn’t diligently searching for magic thumbnails, but when it happened on pretty much the first one I tried, I figured something wasn’t right. I think this is going to be a fun Community to be a part of. Thanks to everyone for your feedback.
Yeah, that’s very interesting and similar. I definitely want to verify if it was a FAST channel or not - I was just setting recordings on one-off movies and repeating series to get a feel for it, so didn’t pay close attention. I wonder if Tablo would consider making some of their software open source? It would put our time to good use and we wouldn’t be speculating on things we have no inner knowledge about. It would take some of the technical load off (well, that’s the theory anyway) and we could add some of those UI elements we’re all itching for. But I digressed…
Sorry about the delay, but forgot to answer this yesterday: the answer is definitely YES, it was a FAST chan, the Free Movies channel (don’t recall the exact name). Hasn’t happened again on any other thumbnail, and I took a lot of time the past few days becoming very familiar with the platform.
I like that channel. Never had a problem with it.
I’m hoping (and now more believing) that it was a fluke that linked that thumbnail to whatever the “new” starting point was. Introduces the thought of a whole new way to jump to different spots in a recorded video. In my mind, I see 9 starting thumbnails that indicate jumping to the 10%, 20%, … so on spot. Might be handy for some?!?
I like the channel a lot, too, never saw it before Tablo.
