Hello all,
I have just recv’d a new Tablo Dual Lite and although it ‘seems’ to be working correctly, I am still having difficulties. (this is a replacement unit from Tablo - 1st one was determined by tech support remote login to have hdwe. problems).
Hard Drive: I have an external Western Digital 1Tb 3.5" hard drive, that is mounted in an Icy-Dock USB enclosure. Formatting went flawlessly. And recording seem to be on the device. Just as they should.
Here is what is going on -
Not able to view ‘Live Tv’ - that’s right no video.
All shows and recordings have the ‘blue boxes’ - text of the show only, no cover art on anything.
I have tried to get Live TV on many devices - iPhone, iPad, Web App on a MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini, even a Windows 10 PC.
I have tried on 4 different browsers: Chrome, FireFox, Safari, and even Opera. No luck.
I can set settings, schedule recordings, etc. Just no live TV and when trying to play a recorded show, I get a “Player Error” - no video.
I even tried turning WiFi off on my Mac and using the Ethernet cable - nope, didn’t work.
However, I discovered this today … when I turn off WiFi on my iPhone and use Cellular Data to use the Tablo app, everything works - Live TV plays, recorded shows play, and I’ve got cover artwork on everything (just like the Tablo is supposed to work).
So, with that said, what in my Linksys EA6350 WiFi router is blocking this stuff from working on ALL devices?
Anybody know exactly how to change some router (or Tablo) settings to make this work?
Did that … unplugged the hard drive, rebooted the Tablo … no LIve TV. Same.
The Hard drive already has recordings on it … I just can’t watch them. Crazy!
I really think it is some port that is being blocked on my router.
If I could find out which port(s) to manually open (port forwarding), I bet this thing would work instantly. My 2 cents.
There should be no ports block, nor port forwarding required within your own network.
That stuff is only required for devices outside your network, on the internet, to access devices within your network.
What’s the make and model of the ISP modem?
I’m thinking maybe the ISP modem has router functionality built in, and is conflicting with your wireless router.
NO ISP Modem … we have Fiber Internet service (75Mbps) here and all I have to plug into my WiFi router is an Ethernet cable. So as far as I know I don’t have a ‘cable modem’, just my Linksys WiFi Router (EA6350).
Whatever’s on the other end of that ethernet cable is the “modem”. It’s probably actually a protocol converter box, converting from fiber to twisted pair.
Maybe - there is a ‘Box’ outside where they brought the fiber from the street … but I have no way to access or change anything on it … the box is locked and waterproof.
If I could find out what the Tablo is missing (what is being blocked), maybe I could call the ISP provider tech support and ask them to change a setting? Funy, because everything else on the unit is working and as I mentioned, when I try to access the Tablo using my iPhone and the app, using Cellular Data, everything works just fine. Only when we use the Roku or iPhone app using WiFi is when there is no playback or Live TV.
In to the Internet Port of the Wifi router (where you would normally plug a cable from the cable modem). So I guess ther is a ‘cable modem’ outside, I just have no way to make changes to it. (unless I get the ISP tech guys on the horn)
That actually sounds to me like you’ve gotten the Tablo into some sort of DMZ on the router. You set up remote access on the router, right? Manually or using uPNP?
Just called my ISP - box outside is NOT a cable modem - it is a Fiber to Data converter box. (convert the light signal coming down the Fiber cable to an electrical data signal) - and that is the ethernet cable I plug directly into the Internet port on the back of the WiFi Router.
Tomato, tomahto. It’s not a “cable modem”, but it is a form of modem (modulator-demodulator). The difference between a (generic) modem and a protocol or data converter is only of interest to hardware engineers.
So, you can’t play any video on the local network. But you can remotely. But you can get to the scheduling UI? All the menus work, but just not playback? Yeah, I think support is going to have to get into that device and see what’s going on.
Yes, any device connected via WiFi (iPhone, Mac/WebApp, Roku) can not see Live TV nor watch recorded shows. And there are no cover art graphics on the shows, just blue boxes with the text / name of the show or recording. All the settings, guide listing and all that work just fine.
Using Cellular Data on my phone, everything works fine. Live TV, playback of recorded shows, cover art on stuff.
I simply plugged in the Ethernet cable to the back of the Tablo- and checked the ‘allow remote access’ check box in the settings … (didn’t use the built in Wifi signalWiFi at all for the setup) and the Tablo grabbed an I/P address automatically from my router … and then I was able to connect to it via my phone and the web app on my Mac by using the ‘Connect’ function of the main screen after doing a scan for Tablo device in the app.
It’s like one part of the info is not being passed thru (video feed and cover art) to the remote devices, be it a phone, web app or Roku when using WiFi . But 90% of the unit works and functions as it is supposed to.
Well, the fact that you turned on remote access without doing any setup on the router means that you have uPNP turned on.
So the Tablo is directly connected to the router via ethernet. Have you tried connecting a computer directly to the router (ethernet) instead of Wifi and using the web app?
Trying to nail down if it’s actually only failing over Wifi or for anything on the local LAN, which would include non-Wifi devices.
