Legacy Web App & Variable Speed playback, dead as of Nov 2025?

Whatever workarounds I used previously to allow
http://my.tablotv.com
to load the Tablo Windows web app in either the Chrome or MS Edge browsers no longer work. Both redirect to https://… always, no matter what.

Chrome will display a page of outdated workaround info.

MS Edge just hangs forever as it tries to reload over & over, spiking my laptop’s CPU & GPU while the fan spins up trying to cool the overload.

I’ve had no luck finding any workarounds that work anymore. I think the browsers by locking down security to thwart the hackers have broken the Web App for good.

I liked the Web App because I could use a browser extension for fast playback speeds. I can’t find Variable speed playback in any of the Tablo regular apps in the Windows and Android app stores.

If anyone has found a variable speed playback method for the legacy Tablo please share. Thanks

I use Firefox and see this in my browser. How are you able to change the playback speed? Also, if you’re using Windows, see if the Legacy Windows App is still available in the Microsoft Store - it’s still working for me but still no variable-speed playback - I don’t think I’ve ever seen variable-speed playback in any Tablo app.

Now it is loading for me too, once again this morning (Sunday, Nov 16 2025). I’ve changed nothing; maybe a windows update? Something at Tablo?

It hasn’t worked for me the last 2 months or so, except for one Sunday a few weeks ago when it suddenly loaded & worked as usual, until I had to shut down the computer. Afterward the Tablo web app would not load again.

Web apps & pages can change like the weather.

The regular computer App for the legacy Tablo is still in the Microsoft store, but not the newer Tablo’s.

The Web App you see in Firefox looks the same as the one that I see in MS Edge on Windows 11.

I added a browser extension to MS Edge called “Global Speed” (by polywock). There are several similar add-on extensions available via Microsoft, but I like that one best since it is highly customizable (with a little coding).

I don’t use Firefox, but from what I read there are similar add-ons for Firefox.

My guess. Chrome bug. They are now ignoring the insecure site setting (a Chrome setting). Remember when Google “claimed” they only hire the “brightest” and “smartest” employees? Yeah, that stopped being true years ago. With that said, may of us warned old Tablo (the original company, not whatever it is now) that their WAMP design would likely cause problems (because unintelligent companies could not understand it, companies like Google, for example). I guess you could say fourth gen “fixed it” by ensuring “browser never”.

The Legacy Web App (on Windows 11) is dead again --since about a week ago; on both MS Edge & Google Chrome browsers. Whether it will work from week to week is so unpredictable that it’s pretty much worthless.

Sorry you’re experiencing this. I’ve been using Firefox for years and I haven’t seen any issues. You could also see if the Tablo app is still available in the Microsoft Store and install that to see if it solves your sporadic issues. It’s also working well.

The legacy Tablo app is still on the Microsoft Store but the Tablo 4G app hasn’t made it there yet.

This thread is about the Legacy device so, no, I don’t think there will ever be a Windows Gen4 app.

When I checked last Friday (Dec 12) it was working for me again, using
Windows 11, MS-Edge browser.

@WMC7refugee - you should check out the Tablo app in the Windows Store. It’s actually quite nice and I think you can resize it smaller than a browser window so it fits better on your desktop.

Although, I don’t know how much longer you’ll be able to use it. I believe Tablo is wanting OG Legacy users to eventually move over to the Gen4 app.

I noticed the web app started loading again perfectly (as of 1st week of March 2026). I changed nothing! I guess a Tablo server issue got fixed or maybe a recent Windows-11 or MS Edge browser update did it. At any rate, the (classic) Tablo web app loads instantly for now!

Many months ago I did make some configuration changes to persuade the Edge browser to load http: without auto-switching to https: for the web site app, but I didn’t change that setting since then.

To be clear, I just wanted to play certain talk shows at high playback speeds. The Tablo apps on my smart TV don’t offer variable speed playback, nor those on my android phone, nor the laptop app in the Windows store. Only the Tablo web app in a browser allows speed changes. For me that was MS Edge with a browser extension. I really didn’t want to install another browser like Firefox just for this rarely used option.

At any rate, it’s working perfectly again for now!

As an aside, I have two legacy Tablos plus a 4th gen one, and I have updated both legacy models to the newest firmware with no problems. One has the guide & commercial skip subscription, the other has no subscriptions.

Comparing the three after the firmware updates, the 4th gen just offers the free internet channel streams & the ability to record (most of) those. The Legacy with no subscription now seems identical to the 4th gen model, just without the internet channels. The Legacy model with the $7/mo subscription just adds mostly-ok commercial auto-skip and network access away from home.

The legacy web app does not work with the 4th gen model at all, but reasonably well with the updated legacy Tablo firmware. The legacy web app still needs the subscription guide for series scheduling and extra program info. Switching between the old and new apps for these updated Tablos works with minor issues, but I can still use the old web app with my old Tablos for high-speed talk show playback, yay!

Finally, I just noticed the new Tablo app on my smart TV can not only turn the blue LED on all these Tablos to ON & OFF, but also DIM. All other apps only allow On & Off.

I became frustrated because FireFox was the only browser that I could use, but I found that wasn’t always working anymore. I wrote an application that acts like a proxy to the Tablo itself and runs as a service on any computer in your ‘house’, Then all other devices can point their browsers to that computer and control just about everything that the Tablo can do as well as some optimized features like better search and bulk deletions.

If you’re a Linux user/developer who would like to alpha test, please do. You will need the .NET 10 runtime.

It is still in development, but another 2 to four weeks and it should be available.
It is written for Debian-based Linux. After all, Windows, iOS and Android already have applications. A Windows version is in the works.
It will ignore features that are hardly used like channel scan or recording quality, but it will let you watch live TV as well as set up and watch recordings.
It will let you search by title, key word, actor or director
It will show you how your storage is used.
It’s best run as a service, an application that is always run in the background, as getting listing/airing information is tedious and best cached in memory while updated silently in the background. Then any browser can see the custom web app from anywhere on your home area network (LAN)

One big missing feature at this time is commercial skip.

Also, I use both Linux and Windows, but my main personal computer is a desktop computer running Linux which runs 24/7. So, a service application that can run on this machine is ideal for me particularly because one of the Windows machines that I use is for work, and I am restricted as to what store apps I can install. So, this design is perfect for me. I still use my Android Tablo app, but I haven’t checked Windows lately. Is that still supported? If you were to install this on a computer that doesn’t run all the time, then it would take time to update its cache with detailed information about what is coming up on the air as well as details about what you have already recorded. This takes me what seems like about 3-5 minutes, but if you have multiple Tablos, large hard drives and a lot of scanned channels, it could take longer. At least you can watch live TV in the meantime.

Impressive work, Alfetta159!

I’m not sure commercial skip is that important since it didn’t always work properly (for me) and required the monthly subscription fees. I gave those up with the latest legacy Tablo firmware upgrades.

The Tablo Windows app is still available but not being updated (as far as I know) and it won’t work with the newer 4th gen Tablo, only the legacy models --with or without the firmware update.

This Linux Tablo app of yours seems similar to a Windows program called “Tablo Tools” except, as best I understand it, your Linux app for the Tablo is accessed via a web browser pointed to a web site-service of your Linux app, accessed over a local network. On the other hand, “Tablo Tools” is just a regular Windows program requiring installation and run on a Windows machine.

As a retired computer software engineer, I can appreciate the time put into this project.
I hope it works out well for your goals.
