Legacy vs Gen 4 features

On the Legacy Tablo, which I’m still primarily using over the Gen 4, there are several features that I prefer which the Gen 4 completely lacks.

First is premiering programs. Legacy has a very clear section featuring when new and returning programs are airing. The Gen 4 completely lacks that option. Instead the Gen 4 has “Can’t Miss Primetime” which has actually promoted infomercials. Personally, infomercials are not my idea of can’t miss any time.

Second, Library on Gen 4 is a mess. I do not need to see thumbnails of programs which
currently have zero episodes for me to watch.

Take a tip from the Legacy that smartly divides the recording features in scheduled/episodes available to watch. On the Legacy, the scheduled area has two views: all programs which have a standard recording (all) and recordings scheduled for the next two weeks.

The Legacy has actual recordings in a separate area which offers the options of seeing recordings in various configurations: All, Recent (usually last two weeks), TV shows, Movies, Sports, Manual, and Failed.

Third, commercial skip. I would happily pay the $20/year to have commercial skip on the Gen 4.

It was shortly after EW Scripps bought Tablo that the commercial skip feature for all new Legacy Tablos was discontinued. Since Scripps owns many television stations that depend on TV commercial ad income, I doubt that they will ever offer commercial skip again.

Your trying to apply to much logic and common sense to these apps.

Where I live the evening news comes on at 10PM. So tablo inserts a new “news” menu where no news before 11PM is in the “evening news” ribbon. But Jimmy Kimmel qualifies as evening news.

You have to remember the difference between a tech company and a broadcaster that owns tech.

Broadcaster’s didn’t want you recording with a VCR… IMHO, that attitude hasn’t changed.

Something to remember.
