Been using the older legacy Tablo Quad for several years now and have been mostly satisfied. I use it with an internal 2 tb hdd in conjunction with a Roku Ultra. Now that the 4th gen Tablo Quad is out I’m thinking about updating finally.
Advantages of V4 vs legacy…No Guide fees, newer tech, etc.
Disadvantages…Annual Guide fee, no internal hdd for storage,
Another issue with my legacy Tablo Quad is it gets hot. I have mine sitting on a 140 mm usb powered fan to help cool it.
IMO, I say wait.
I have a Legacy quad as well, and will wait at least another year 'til hopefully the majority of the issues with G4 have been ironed out.
Unless mine dies before then, then I will look at all options.
I’ve had the legacy quad since almost the beginning, and all the bugs have been ironed out and it’s working well for me. I also bought the lifetime guide, so ongoing payments aren’t an issue. On the other hand, the new generation of Tablo still has some growing pains from what I’ve been seeing on the message forums, so I’m not inclined to upgrade. Plus, NextGen ATSC 3.0 is going to be here at some point, so, unless my Tablo dies, or ATSC 3.0 Tablos becomes available. I see no pressing need to upgrade at this time.
