Legacy issue has me puzzled

I cancelled my subscription to the legacy app due to the the ability to use the Gen 4 app on my legacy unit. I opened the legacy app, went to the live TV guide and tried to watch a tv show. The attached picture shows what I get. Can anyone tell me why I get this? This is on all channels. Running Fire TV stick.

You should at least have 24 hours of the Live TV Grid View without a subscription.

OP said “tried to watch a show”. Even if that doesn’t work, should it pull up a “manual recording” dialog??

Ya, that’s what I mean. Why doesn’t the Live TV Grid just tune a channel to watch a show?

Did you click on the channel number or on the program name?

I have 24 hours of guide info. I just can’t watch anything. I am asked to schedule manual program.

I just clicked on the channel number and the program opened. When I click on the program name I get the “schedule manual program” screen.

Thanks, that helps.

It appears you can use the Gen4 app on your legacy and you cancelled the sub, which makes total sense to me. If the Gen4 app works - it works perfectly on my firesticks ---- why go back to the older/tired legacy app to watch your Tablo? Selfishly I am crawling in your head. Sorry. I almost can’t wait for commercial skip to go away and then I can delete the old tired app. If my wife read this post she would crack me in the head - she loves commercial skip.

Yeah, that weird behavior is “sort of correct” in that “we know” about the difference between clicking “the number” vs. the show name. But, I think the choice of throwing you to the manual recording setup is confusing at best.

The Gen 4 is nice when it works. Sometimes, but rarely, I will use the Legacy app. To me, Gen 4 in not as user friendly as the Legacy app when searching for programs to record. There are a few things in Gen 4 that take a few more steps to reach your final destination page. And as always, there is the learning curve to the new Gen 4 app.

I acknowledge the learning curve. My wife refuses while we have commercial skip. Once that goes away and the improved app is her only option she will play with it and after a few days she won’t remember the legacy app. I get it though — commercial skip works perfectly for her on the prime shows she records. i.e. - peoples’ hearts do not invest is learning when they have a familiar fallback as a rule. My network staff does the same thing if I engineer an improved method on handling something but elect to leave what they are familiar with for the short haul. Once the “old way” is removed and the new way is mandated they fall in line quickly. Same as here with these two different generation apps.
