Being new to the 4th gen, maybe this has been discussed, but I couldn’t find it. Sometimes when a show is recorded, it looks fine, starts fine, but the video and audio stutter, making it unwatchable. If you try to advance the show, you can see the thumbnail fine, but when you go to play, it just spins. It doesn’t happen all the time and I don’t think it’s a channel issue as it is a main channel and almost all of the time, it records fine. Could it be a signal issue? Another glitch… somehow it didn’t record a show in my series recordings. I had it tagged for ‘new’ recordings. It recorded the episode before and after the missing episode. I can’t swear that the missing episode was marked ‘new’ by the guide, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t be. Since it was a CBS show and I have Paramount, I can watch it there, but this shouldn’t happen. Unreliable recording will kill this thing, imho.
I really feel for you guys that got this a year ago and all the issues you must have had if it’s this wonky after a year of updates.
This article may help: Troubleshooting Fragmented Recordings – Tablo.

Thanks, I took a look. My recording isn’t fragmented, it stutters. Like you get a jumpy picture and segments of words. The entire recording is there and the picture quality looks fine. Really can’t see how anything can be done to fix this, but thanks for responding anyway.
Just out of curiosity, do you have an external hard drive, or are you using the internal memory?
External. It’s an approved WD drive. It’s just weird. I could understand a bad signal fragmenting a show, but this is like a consistent stutter in both picture and audio thru the whole program. Never had anything like this happen with my legacy Tablo.
The stuttering/out-of-sync issue on some recordings has been happening for a long time, even on legacy. I have had that happen intermittently, even on consecutive recordings on the same channel. Due to the overlap, you can see the one is fine, but the other stutters, on the exact same scene.
Thanks. Don’t recall it happening on my legacy tablos, but I was probably just lucky.
I watch shows using direct antenna and I don’t see issues. But when I watch a direct antenna show and record the same program I’ve just watched “live OTA”, I see that there are problems with the recording where it pixelates on the Legacy device, and blanks out on the Gen4 unit at the same points in both recordings. The signal is coming directly from antenna to Tablo, so you’d think it’d have to be 1) antenna, or 2) Tablo. I’m going to recheck my antenna because that should be the commonality between the two units.
Also, the Gen4 unit doesn’t allow users to set the resolution/bandwidth used by the Tablo. It might be a good idea to add back. Also, there’s no real-time antenna strength meter by channel. This should be a requirement. The average strength display they use isn’t at all helpful.
