Got the Tablo last night. Setup was easy. I set up recordings for the two GMAs and the Today show this morning. Today and the 2nd GMA are totally fine, but the first GMA is unplayable. At first it was stuttering and the audio sync got way off. Then I tried to FF and now it’s just spinning. I reset the unit, but no change. It does play in the app on my phone, but there’s no audio. It was connected by wifi, but I’ve now moved one of my Google wifi points so now it’s “hardwired” to that. No clue if that will help. But losing 1 out of 3 recordings is not a great start. Anything I can do to troubleshot or is this just the way it’s going to be?
Welcome to the community. What streaming device are you using and what kind of antenna setup do you have?
Today is on NBC and GMA is on ABC. It could be that one is a VHF channel and isn’t coming in very well with your current antenna. Would you mind providing your ZIP Code too?
Thanks.
Hey, zip is 45212.
Antenna is Amplified Digital Outdoor HDTV Antenna 150 Miles Long Range - 360 Degree Rotation Infrared Control - Tools Free Installation - Support 2 TVs. Can’t post the link but “amazon B074CGF6ZN” will get you there.
Not amplified. Installed on the roof, pointed at the stations that are about 4 miles away. Hooked directly to the Tablo.
Using Chromecast. All the stations come in very well and as mentioned, the other GMA recording was perfect. Only the early one had an issue. Never had an issue with my Tivo Edge either.
How does the 1st GMA recording look on your phone? If it looks good there, then it could be your network speed causing the issue. Check your phone to see if it stutters like on the Chromecast. The goal is to rule out the recording itself causing the issue.
Then again, you’re exceptionally close to your towers, so you might need to attenuate (decrease or weaken) your signal. Or, this particular antenna isn’t 100% serving your needs.
Also, here’s a review on your or a closely-related antenna by AntennaManPA.com
When watching on my phone is basically does the same thing. Video stutters and the audio sync got way off. The crazy thing is the exact same thing happened with today (Sunday’s) GMA. But yet I started watching about 7:55 and I was able to rewind the beginning and watch without issue. So it’s somehow just playing from the recording that’s affected. Other recordings and watching that channel live is totally fine. It just doesn’t want me to watch the 7AM GMA!
Sorry to hear. Is it possible that it could also be the signal you’re receiving at that time? According to the Antenna Man’s recommendation, the antenna you’re using isn’t of good quality. Is there any chance you could get a small Phillips or GE indoor set top antenna to test? These work surprisingly well within 10 or 15 miles of broadcast towers and receive both UHF and VHF signals.
I have another antenna to try, but I’m trying to figure out how it could be the antenna causing an issue only for 1 hour a day on 1 channel. Every other recording has been fine and I’ve been using this same antenna for 4+ years with a Tivo Edge without issue.
As a long time TiVo Roamio user I can tell you that antennas do make a difference. Sometimes you’re too close and have to attenuate the signal.
My Roamio pulls in signals my Tablo won’t and vice versa.
As far as “causing an issue only for 1 hour a day on 1 channel” you have to go to square one and try everything in order. You might contact your local station and ask them if there is something happening with that transmission at that time. Problem could be environmental or local interference at that time.
Well, how could it be anything at that time for 1 hour per day? I would test out the other antenna just to rule that part out.
I don’t know what I’m talking about but it seems you are near Cincinnati but your Zip code kinda puts you where there could be co-interference. Hamilton County.
Specifically what channels are you recording? Station call letters…
There are a number of reasons to lose signal briefly. On VHF it could be as simple as an appliance or Christmas lights.
UHF will take some investigating. Unshielded coax next to an electronic device. Loose connectors.
Check the channel list in Tablo’s settings to make sure channel 22.1 is not there or not checked. I doubt that antenna would pick it up from 40 miles away in the wrong direction. But you never know. And I would not put it past Tablo to try to record the weaker of the two ABC stations.
@CarbonCompound Yes I am in the middle of Cincinnati. Norwood, OH. ABC here is WCPO. Channel 9. You said, “lose signal” but as mentioned, I don’t think I lost signal. I turned on the tv at ~7:55AM and could completely rewind to the beginning and the whole recording was completely fine. It’s just the Tablo couldn’t play the video without issue when starting from the “recording”.
@Ron1 It doesn’t pick up 22.1. I removed all the channels except the main stations, NBC 5.1, ABC 9.1, CBS 12.1, CW 12.2, FOX 19.1 and PBS 48.1.
My experience has been the same. I press the ‘back’ button to exit and start it over. Sometimes two or three times. It eventually resyncs.
I’ve read some people keep FF or RR but I think that restarting the stream works.
Sometimes I go crazy and power cycle the device.
Hammer
Time…
Interesting. I’ve tried playing these episodes multiple times and they never resync.

How to Troubleshoot Audio Visual A/V Sync Issues
Well after a rocky start, it’s been mostly fine. No more screwed up recordings so not sure what happened last weekend. I do still see some overall bugginess. Today I paused a show and when I came back, the Chromecast was on the screensaver so I hit the back button and it started back at the beginning instead of resuming. It does seem like that’s the case when I see the most issues. Or if we just turn off the tv, when I turn it back on, I may just get a spinning circle and nothing loads. It seems like if you exit out of the app or we were watching another app like Netflix, when the Tablo app starts up fresh, it’s mostly fine. So while it’s nice that it’s an app so we could watch it on any tv, we never do that. It would be nice if it just connected to an HDMI port so it could be used more like the Tivo where you turned on the tv and it would just play live tv. Now I have to open an app and then navigate to a channel. So it’s a pretty big step back from the Tivo for multiple reasons, but at least it’s cheap ![]()
So this happened again. Same exact issue. This was the 911 memorial show that aired on Sept 1st on ABC which was the channel I had the issues on before. Have had plenty of success recordings so no clue what’s happening.
