Interesting failure mode

This might be one for the books.

While trying to watch a recorded program, the Tablo kept restarting. I tried another recording and the same thing happened. I was using a Roku player at the time.

I had noticed just before I began watching recordings on the Tablo that an OTA television station was off-air.

On a hunch I checked the live TV guide and it showed the Tablo was scheduled to record the off-air channel. I stopped the recording and afterwards the previous recordings played OK without a Tablo restart.

I suspect this precise condition could be hard to replicate but thought I’d pass on the experience anyway for future reference.

I am curious on how your Tablo was scheduled to record an off-air channel. That doesn’t seem possible except for a manual recording.

What does an off air channel mean? Lol

Like the middle of the night when nothing is on?

I think @Wolfpack means that the actual channel wasn’t broadcasting anything at the time. Did the channel move frequencies?

Having an OTA go off air isn’t all that unusual. Sometimes they do maintenance.

Last week the CBS affiliate’s OTA broadcast went off air at 11 AM for exactly 20 minutes.

The tv station had stopped broadcasting for several hours. It is OK now.

Eventually it will have a frequency re-assignment but not for the time being.

The station call letters are WPXK.

It might be possible to simulate the effect while the Tablo is recording a channel, switch to watch a recorded program, and remove the antenna input, and see if that affects playback of the recording.
