I continually get “poor video” when I am trying to open or reopen after moving forward in a recorded program. Tablo, including their inadequate support organization, continues to maintain that this is due to weak signal reception. This makes absolutely no sense, as I can and do receive the same channel and programing just fine most of the time. Incidentally, I am a retired EE with specialization in radio propagation. If it were bad reception, the recorded data would be corrupt and NEVER be restorable, but this is not true, many times after a LONG repeated request to restart the program will do so. This is fairly obviously a problem between in this case the Tablo app on a Fire TV system and the Tablo device and its memory system. I am running an Eero Wifi network with the Tablo connected via ethernet. I have noted that waiting a bit before asking for a resync helps.
You didn’t mention any specifics regarding your signal. Antenna, distance, market, affected channels. No one can even hazard a guess without information.
Memory leaks can be illusive. Every week I do a “cold reboot” by power cycling the Tablo Gen4.
Unplug it and wait 10 seconds… Plug it back in.
I also reboot my Fire Stick 4k G2 frequently because it got weird after the last update. Sometimes it can’t find ‘Home’ and throws an error.
SOP for Tablo is clear the cache then clear the data then delete and reinstall the app. Repeat until…
Sorry, Los Angeles market. Towers on top of Mountain. I am at the edge of line of site, but signals all show fully green. It does not matter whether I have the antenna amp on or off, same behavior. Problem is NOT with the original reception (only ONCE have I seen video that is appears as color blocks indicating a digital signal that is off data sync so the wrong bits are going into the wrong locations in the received data word. ONCE in two years! All the signals are shown as green in the receiving scan analysis. Using an appropriate high gain antenna. It is aimed properly (due west in my case). Unless the signal was so weak that even the amplifier doesn’t raise it into the acceptable range I have good RF signal. If it were that weak, I would almost never get reception, and I do virtually all the time.
The TV is less than 50’ from the Eero router that is ethernet connected to the Tablo device with one stuccoed wall and two framed walls in between. The WiFi is a meshed network, so it is possible that the protocol of the Tablo to TV app data link is not accepting that process (indeed I think that is probably at the center of the problem). Sometimes the process behaves with a bit slower response on the human end. A delay in requesting the next stage in connecting to the Tablo sometimes works (but not always).
When you say original reception do you mean antenna directly into your TV? Do you have the 2 tuner or the 4 tuner Tablo? What channels have the problem and are there any that dont?
By original reception I mean the antenna to the Tablo. Antenna is not and can not be connected to the TV. There should be only that “reception”. That is when the RF signal containing digitally coded TV is converted into a digital signal that thereafter should be transferred in digital blocks under some protocol into and out of the digital memory in the Tablo and using ethernet and wifi to the Tablo app in the TV. LG by the way.
ALL channels have the problem. All recorded programs independent of source have the issue. Despite Tablo’s contention that this is an RF signal level problem it is NOT.
Finally, Tablo support got back to me. They had me open the Tablo app on my phone. It looks at all the video just fine, both live and DVR. No problem no hesitations. So definitely NOT RF reception of the broadcast TV and not the Tablo device. Since the phone was adjacent to the TV not the WiFi. Problem is definitely in the app being processed in the Fire TV app for Tablo. I have the issue with two tvs using two different Fire TV hardware, one a stick and one the cube.
