So this only happens on some shows. Seems like it happens often to the ABC nightly news at 6:30 PM. I have the series set to record. I want to watch it from the beginning while it’s recording. It doesn’t show up in the “Latest” section but it does in the Coming Soon but I don’t have the option to watch from the beginning. I can start it from there but it starts at live and I can rewind to the beginning. But when this happens, I don’t get the preview tiles if it ends before we are done watching like it normally does. Why does this happen sometimes?
Are you going to say what app you are using and if it’s a gen 4 app which generation of tablo.
Sorry. It’s 4th Gen and this is viewing on Chromecast.
Hopefully you can find someone that uses chromecast on a gen 4 to answer the question. I don’t think chromecast is used by that many gen 4 users.
Next time I notice, I’ll check Roku and Android mobile apps to see if the app matters.
I didn’t get a chance to check other apps, but this is what I see. You can see they are recording, but they only show up in the coming soon and there is no way to watch from the beginning, only from live.

You can watch an in-progress recording from the beginning on Roku by opening the Tablo app, navigating to the Library or Latest screen, selecting the active recording, and choosing Watch Episode or rewinding to the start. [1, 2, 3]
How to Watch an Ongoing Recording from the Start
- Go to the Library or Latest section of the Tablo app on your Roku device, rather than trying to launch it directly from the live program guide. [1, 2]
- Select the show that is currently recording to open its details. [1]
- Choose Watch Episode to begin playback, then use your Roku remote to rewind back to the very beginning of the broadcast if it starts live or further ahead. [1, 2]
As noted “playback of in-progress recordings can be started from the beginning of the program… on the Tablo apps for Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV as these platforms do natively support playback of MPEG-2 video.”
Still talking about Chromecast as I didn’t get to check Roku. They aren’t in the “Latest” section.
So just to be clear, this normally works as expected on the vast majority of the shows. I don’t know if it’s always the evening news, but seems it.
Try exiting the app and go back in. Icon should appear.
And today it worked just fine.
