I received a piece of junk. Anyone else?

Hmmm. My Roku 3s are connected to my 5GHz wireless, as is my (new model) Roku Stick.

My old Roku sticks do 5 Ghz wireless.

Roku 2, 3, and 4 have wireless-n (5GHz) capability.
Roku 4 also has wireless-ac capability.

Try using PowerLine adaptors that put wired ethernet over standard power lines… it works great… running direct wires isnt a possibility for me either and thats my solution… this is what I use … nothing fancy and relatively inexpensive… WiFi Networking Equipment for Home & Business | TP-Link

I very limited power outlets and must use power strips. Will it work through them? Thanks

Well mate, it just might be your network. I had many problems with my Tablo at first. Some users said my router was dodgy – it was an old piece of kit, to be frank. I thought it was a windup since it was brilliant for Netflix, but did eventually replace it with an Archer C7. The difference was worlds apart - the buffering vanished and now I can even see the wifi signal in the back garden. I tried to use the 5 Gb network with my Roku 3 but it would not stay connected. With the exception of software update cock-ups by Roku, I’ve been as happy as a dog with two tails.

It may … generally the recommend directly plugging into the socket… if you must i’d use good quality strips and not overly fancy ones with line noise removal, surge protection etc as those might inadvertently filter out the signal.

I’ve had a 4 tuner for a couple of years and have had mixed results.

For example: watching the olympics today using it to stream to my AppleTV. For a few hours everything is great and then it just froze. I tried to restart the show several times. Eventually just giving up and watching it using sling TV on the same Apple TV.

The other frustrating thing is the regular sync wait when you load up the Tablo app on your browser or IOS. I don’t want to wait 5+ minutes for the app to sync before I can watch TV.

TV just needs to work. I’m pretty good with technology the Tablo in my experience has been very inconsistent.

I think the Tablo gets a bit discombobulated with any interruptions in the signal … i.e. a momentary pixelization from interference seems to cause it to have a slight fit on occasion.

FWIW, it is possible for an over-the-air signal to be TOO strong and that will cause problems. I have varying signal strengths in my area so I bought an antenna with an amplifier. After battling problems with a specific channel, I figured out (with the help of their chief engineer) the signal from that specific channel was too strong, but when I unplugged the amp, a couple other stations were then too weak. I installed a 3Db attenuator and it knocked down the stronger station just a bit while the weaker signals are still strong enough that they all work fine.

Another potential issue could be your hard drive. The first one I used was from the ā€œapprovedā€ list but kept crashing and disconnecting. I spent a bit more and picked up a more robust, 7200 rpm drive and all my hard drive issues went away.

Lastly, you’re connected through wifi - is there a possibility another nearby device is interfering with the signal on the Roku or Tablo? I had issues with 5Ghz wifi with my Roku 3 so I switched to the standard bandwidth and things were better. I eventually installed an ethernet switch and hardwired both the Tablo and Roku and am far happier with the performance.

Hope this might be helpful.
