@Nilex Welcome to the club of “do you work for Tablo?” Everyone and their mom thinks I work for Tablo. All I have to say is I wish, they would probably pay me more then what I’m making now.

To record streaming content you will need PlayOn.tv or something like it.
Ken
Just to close the loop on this, did you every reply @CarbonCompound? Maybe I missed it in another thread.
Dang it. The thread has been combined and the links are wonky.

So getting back on topic…
If you go to the top of this thread and read each post, you’ll see that it’s my post about the desire to record Tubi.
I never attributed that to the OP.
That being said I’ve changed my mind and no longer wish to install any software on the Tablo Gen4.
Thanks anyway.
This link works.
Understood. That’s been a long term discussion, even back to the legacy Tablo devices and just hasn’t ever made sense really.
Sorry again for being a noob. I’ve only gotten 2 years of experience with Tablo and still learning.
And it doesn’t make sense. Channel Master found out the hard way with the DVR+ and the Stream+.
I bought one of each. Those losers.
I could only stream YouTube, Vudu, Pandora, CMTv and Sling on the DVR+.
But on the Stream+ I could download any suitable app in Google Play. I even installed the Tablo Gen4 app and used it.
Sadly all three are no longer supported.
You mean wanting to install 3rd party software on a headless device with an unknown linux distro that has back doors into tablo servers makes sense.
I think so. What were you meaning?
Not a dig at you, just saying it’s been out there for a while.
We’re cool. ![]()
After reading the posts on this thread, I conclude that the only reason that I would want TUBI on Tablo is for the Whole Home feature.
Tubi doesn’t have a DVR service but could let Tablo serve the purpose by allowing recording. I doubt that local, uncontrolled recording will be allowed.
Aren’t tubi streams DRM protected. And if so wouldn’t that mean the one possible way to capture them is a HDMI capture device. But tablo doesn’t have a HDMI port.
The assumption is that a person wants to record the video. I don’t see any need to record Tubi since it is on demand and can be watched any time. The only drawback is that videos do get removed from the service. Tubi also allows storing a reference to a video in My Stuff so I can come back later and continue watching without having to search for the movie again.
In many cases “on demand” is a misnomer.
Sometimes a movie may be scheduled for 1:00am and I’m not going to get out of bed to watch…
I’ma use the TV in the bedroom.
But my point is that on demand has a schedule and it doesn’t always correspond with my eyes.
The entire suggestion was a mistaken intellectual exercise.
Other vendors have done it and currently do it
If other apps were loaded onto the Tablo Gen4 it would simply melt.
What you describe is not on demand because it is provider controlled. With on demand you decide when to watch the movie at your convenience, not when the provider decides to show it as with linear programming.
Thanks. That solves the problem.
I was misusing the term “on demand”. Meaning when I want to.
But my question was… For whatever reason or no rational reason at all…
How could I use the Tablo to record any a/v feed besides OTA and the Tablo provided FAST channels?
The short answer is I cannot. Yet.
I would have to feed the signal through Tablo Gen4 antenna port.
Since Tablo doesn’t support Tubi directly, the easiest option would be to use a smart TV, streaming device, or tablet. Another option is to cast Tubi from your phone or tablet to a device connected to your TV.
Aren’t you already using one of those devices to use a Tablo? I think the OP was a troll and asked a stupid question but never responded to any of the questions
