How Many Years WIll a 4th Generation Tablo Last

My legacy 2 tuner will have its tenth birthday in a few weeks. Has always been plugged into a UPS and is still using the original power supply. The only thing I did to it was add some taller rubber stick-on feet to the bottom of it. The original 1tb hard drive connected to it is about 12 years old and shows no signs of stopping. Its plugged into the same UPS. All this is in our basement family room (steady temperatures/humidity).

My 4th gen is also plugged into a (different) UPS in our upstairs living room and is 1 year and 7 months old. Have only used the internal storage. Has given us no serious trouble especially since using the onn 4k pros about 3 months ago. But don’t get me wrong it was buggy (but usable) while we used Roku Ultras.

It’s a hobby so to each their own.

Tablo heat has been discussed in other threads too.
My 4tuner seemed to run much hotter than my 2tuner, so I got some adhesive pads and doubled them up on the bottom to raise it a half inch or so. Seems a little cooler now. Keeps some heat off the varnish on the shelf too.

A fan is an idea mentioned by some posters however I’d be concerned about dust accumulation. And I have as many cables on my tablo shelf as I want.

I always thought all the vents on the bottom were for air to go in, and it then comes out of the slots under the edge of the puck’s top surface. The square area of the vents on the bottom looks bigger than the area of the slots above.

I don’t think there is a fan in there, so there is no in vs. out. Instead the holes just allow air to move. Like others have mentioned, I did get an inexpensive fan to blow across mine. I have a little thermometer there and it stays about 73°.

Yours is in the open air, not enclosed in a cabinet, so you should be fine, but it wouldn’t hurt to prop it up an inch with some small blocks.

Sorry, your parents are running into that.

Would you or they consider reaching out to technical support team? They may be able to help.

We do have a 12-month limited warranty.

just like your phone… these chipsets are built to run at high temps. This aint the 80s anymore.

Ditto - but on my OG Legacy Tablo. I just prop up the Gen4 but I might eventually add an active USB fan.

Correction: My Tablo sits on top of the fan and pulls heat away from the device. I also had concerns about dust blowing into the unit after I set it up and made this change to correct my oversight after a few days.
