How is internal memory used?

Out of the box, the Tablo will store up to about 50 hours of programming. When you attach an external drive, all the old recordings are still accessible, bit it switches to using the external drive for all new recordings. As you delete old recordings, the internal memory eventually becomes empty of recordings.

Exactly how is that memory used at that point? I assume it is buffering live programming. It is also likely used for processes like generating thumbnails.

I’m just curious. @TabloTV, can you tell us what is going on under the hood?

Hi @KGBnut ,

After an external drive is connected, the internal one is only used for storing old recordings. If those recordings are removed, it will sit idle.

Once connected, the external drive handles all of the buffering.

Thank you for the clarification. I was just curious.
