I don't know if this has been requested yet... - Have the option of boosting the volume. The live TV / recording volume is so low I have to crank up the TV volume to the max. It would be nice to have the option of increasing the stream volume, per channel. - Be able to rename the channels to something meaningful. Channels in Canada are all named C***, and often the accronym (what shows up on Tablo) doesn't match the actual channel name.
The volume is set in the beginning by the broadcasters but overall volume is set at the device level. The apps don't really have control over this. Which device are you using?
As for renaming channels, this has been requested and is something we’re looking at.
Volume boost would be great. The recorded volume is much lowered than other media on any devices. Especially noticeable when using the roku.
@ShadowsPapa - sounds like it warrants some additional investigation on my part. I had a few devices that simply wouldn’t give up their existing IP address after changing the reservation on the router and cycling the device…so I gave up. Granted, maybe I jumped to a conclusion too quickly. I’ll play with it more when I have some time. Thanks for the info.
That would be a great feature to add to Tablo. Guess I could put a splitter on and connect the antenna directly to the TV or try an antenna I’ve seen on tv.
Add guide interface to Roku, pretty sure this is coming soon.
Ability to switch to more traditional DVR list view for recordings, typical of what you’d see on a satellite or cable DVR.
Modify Chromecast connectivity so that programming goes directly to Chromecast instead of video appearing directly on your device first and then having to cast it.
Ability to modify start and end times for recordings, both on an individual basis and for an entire season.
Ability to resume a recording where you left off.
Provide view status of each recording: un watched, partially watched, completely watched.
Yes, but maybe instead of a recently watched section which also lists shows you have even finished watching, a “On Deck” section like in Plex which only lists shows that were started but not finished.
The old Roku UI already has a recently recorded section as it organizes recordings by date. Is this disappearing from the new UI?

I may be missing the use case… but On Deck has always been a mystery to me. It seems to be the “next” episode in a series… but after I watch something from On Deck, it doesn’t allow me to easily continue to the following episode. I have to navigate back into the series to get the next ep.
I would really like easier access to view recorded shows using the Roku 3. There are way too many steps to access a show.
Why not have the actual episodes displayed after selecting the show with the option to read more (about the show), all on the same screen, instead of having to select episodes, then the episode, and then play.
Thumbnails on Roku 3 while watching a recorded show that is still recording would be great. We often watch the recorded news and recorded football games after they start, but before they are done recording, so we can Fast Forward through commercials.
TabloSupport wrote: The reason why we cannot do previews on Live TV or on ‘in progress’ recordings is a product of how Tablo works and how this feature was implemented.
Basically what occurs is that Tablo takes a final recording and then pushes it back through a tuner to create the thumbnails.
The Roku revamp will be here by the end of the month. It has NOT gone beta yet, but I expect that to happen in the next two weeks. Thumbnails while watching live will not happen the way it is currently implemented. The recording needs to finish, then it is put thru a tuner to generate the thumbnails when a tuner is free. Which is why I suggest the 4 tuner instead of the 2 tuner version.

Every beta test I’ve ever done for software companies - beta took a good 2 or 3 weeks, then after end of beta open issues were resolved, code locked and you saw the code a month after beta began. And that was at times rushing the process. It’s hard to conceive such a very short beta time-frame unless they are very certain of the code before it even goes beta. I’ve alpha tested as well (for Symantec, their corporate products where I also helped function as QA) - where I was the first person to see the code right out of development/engineering, and from there it was usually 6 weeks to release.
I’ve got pre-beta code running on a VPN gateway now and it’s still in engineering, a month after I received it, not true beta yet. It just amazes me that you’d say “beta in the next two weeks, release by end of month.” 2 weeks from now is the 24th, that leaves just 1 week to test, resolved all issues and release. WOW.
Sorry this is a double post. I just realized that thread existed.
The Tablo’s current functionality is great. The only thing missing is a way to play local movies from a network or directly attached storage. If Tablo was able to do this it would be the only “server” device needed in a home for a great media setup. If it worked much like plex and could transcode any format on the fly the Tablo could greatly expand sales to a huge market of cable cutters.
Great idea but definitely not possible with the processing power of the dual tuner. If you were using one tuner for transcoding locally hosted media for another device then you’d have only one tuner for recording or watching live TV. Possible in the future on an upgraded device but doubt it would happen, just too many issues with local media - so many formats.
My question would be why - when almost every other device we might own can already do this, from computer (built-in software) to Blu Ray player to smart TV. They all do it, can find and organize and play media files. My Blu Ray player found all of my movies, saved YouTube clips and so on and offered to serve them up for me. This area will be expanding greatly in the very near future with the new TVs and other devices so Tablo would be a “johnny come lately” into that, and a 2nd or 3rd device in the home to offer it, not a first.
The Tablo has a specific purpose, one that is does well. Roku, AppleTv, FireTv, and Chromecast can all play back media files from a source, so why complicate the Tablo with that functionality?
I want the Tablo to be the best OTA DVR on the market and nothing else. If I want to play other media files on my TV, I have lots of ways to do that.
