Help Shape the Tablo Roadmap

@7Up - We’re always looking at ways to reduce this time. HLS (our streaming protocol) comes in 4 second segments, so that’s the absolute minimum we can whittle it down to if we remain with that standard. We could look at doing something a bit different for live TV to enable more of a channel surfing experience but that’s still up for debate. Stay tuned!

@Jestep - Good feedback. We’ll see if @matb33 can do anything about that.

ability to delete a entire series recording with a single click.

When fast forwarding a recording, give a small preview of where you are at on the timeline (similar to the Netflix experience).  This way we don’t have to guess how many times to press the fast forward button to skip commercials… we see exactly where we are scrubbing and press play again.

@TabloTV -   4+ seconds would be incredible.   Thanks for continuing to look for ways to reduce this time.

4 seconds would be great it would put it on par with the cable DVR I had.
Does the 4 second segments also factor in transcoding time or is that low enough that it does not meaningfully matter?

Could support for a network tuner, such as a Silicon Dust HD-HomeRun, ever be added to TabloTV?   In theory, this would allow a TabloTV user to add additional OTA tuners or (yes I know its the opposite of cord cutting) add support for CATV.

@villaininblack - We’ve got some cool stuff around deleting options coming soon.

Re: 4 seconds, that’s the very minimum zero overhead of what we can aim for. We would still need a few extra seconds for transcoding.

@7up - It could be possible to connect USB-based tuners or cable card support boxes to Tablo but it would require some software work. It’s unlikely that we’d offer support for additional OTA tuners (since you can use multiple Tablos on one network) but we may look at options for non-OTA recording.

I bought the Tablo just so I could use a Roku from my vacation home but alas I did not read the fine print.

I want Roku via Tablo Connect to be available ASAP!

@greymont - It is possible and is on the to-do list. In the meantime you can use an HDMI-enabled computer and the web app to stream Tablo Connect content to a big screen TV at the vacation home.

OK, I won’t send it back, then.

I get it. You guys are working flat out to tweak everything and add more. I’ll be patient.

I’ll wait at least a week before asking again!

@greymont - Ha, thanks for giving us such an ample amount of development time :))

I have a lot of channels available in my area.  At times, I have seen the exact same movie or show available on different channels at different times.

When I click on a show in the ‘Prime Time’ view and then click on one of the possible times when it will be on, for convenience the resolution for the channel should be listed.  This way, if a movie or show is available on a 480i or 720p, I can easily make the choice to record the higher res channel when I record.

For example, instead of:
Channel 7-1 WXYZ-HD on Fri, Aug 15 from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM

the line could read:
Channel 7-1 WXYZ-HD (720p) on Fri, Aug 15 from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM

It would also be nice to see resolution in the Channel view just under the channel number or maybe even a mouse-over to reveal the channels resolution.

+1 for knowing the resolution of the channel (if that’s possible).

(I have not read thru all 11 pages of this thread so apologies if its been mentioned before)

Has anyone suggested supporting hard drives larger than 2TB?

Yes! And this is something we’re actively working on so stay tuned!

@Frank00 - The smart record feature we’re working on right now will automatically choose the highest resolution before the lower one so that should solve this issue for you.

Any way of giving a recording a “Quality Score” based on number of antenna dropouts.  I don’t know if it is even possible for it to detect dropouts so this may not even make sense.  It takes a while sometimes before I get to watch some of the recorded shows.  With reruns on multiple channels I end up getting the same episode a couple times.  I will usually just pick one and delete but would be nice to delete the lower quality.  With the smart record feature in the future could include to re-record a duplicate if a tuner is available and the quality is below a certain threshold and then keep the highest quality recording.

@Chris - Interesting concept. Not sure if it’s possible but I’ll pass that along to the team.

better yet, a setup option to choose the default.  some might choose lower res for greater storage.  I learned long ago not to make assumptions for my clients when designing software.

As a show is recording you would have to say keep a running average of the signal quality … that could be used as a “score” value to compare against a previous recording … all things being equal save the one with the same quality and higher res …
