@Jestep, the Tablo should have worked fine for all your devices except for web. That is the only one that requires a connection to the internet.
We actually had to look at and talk to each other :-P
:)) The horror!!!
My suggestion is a comment about existing layout rather than adding a new feature, but:
Why does the heading “Live TV” need to take up half of the screen when viewing the program guide? For example, you can be using an iPAD with retina display, but you get half the screen used by the header, and then the programs and the timeslots are shown in enormous format so you only get a couple of hours and maybe 5-8 channels on the screen at once.
I’d suggest shrinking the header by 80% and shrinking the size of the blocks by half so you can actually see a useful amount of content on the screen at once. Even better, make the size user configurable!
following change would help those that love our Tablo, but struggle with the
light gray against white or the light gray against darker grey background. It’s just very difficult to read. I’m viewing Tablo via the Roku. Live TV menu
is a perfect example of this vision dilemma.
Thanks for the UI feedback @belgiangenius and @streambird - We’ll take a look at both of these suggestions!
I don’t know if this has been requested yet…
- Have the option of boosting the volume. The live TV / recording volume is so low I have to crank up the TV volume to the max. It would be nice to have the option of increasing the stream volume, per channel.
- Be able to rename the channels to something meaningful. Channels in Canada are all named C***, and often the accronym (what shows up on Tablo) doesn’t match the actual channel name.

The volume is set in the beginning by the broadcasters but overall volume is set at the device level. The apps don’t really have control over this. Which device are you using?
As for renaming channels, this has been requested and is something we’re looking at.
I tried with both roku3 and chromecast. I’m getting the same poor volume levels using both devices on my TV. I’m not experiencing these issues when streaming other media types through other applications, or when connecting the antenna directly to the TV.
Volume through web UI seems fine.
@maximeag - Odd… Let’s get @TabloSupport to look at this.
I have reported before about the lower volume levels on web app, Android app, Roku 3, iPad app.
@Maximeag We use the volume level the broadcaster sends out - the Tablo doesn’t alter it in any way. From here, the audio level is at the mercy of the device it’s playing on. This is pretty relative and can be hard to measure from a user’s perspective because some channels, apps, etc will sound different than others due to the source of the audio.
I would like to make a few comments about interfaces.
First off, the iPAD interface is awesome, with one exception: why is it when I click on a recorded program that I get a huge photo and description of the program at the top of the window and I have to scroll all the way to the bottom to access the recordings? I know the programs I record. Please move this picture and description off to the side and give me unimpeded access to my recordings without requiring additional input.
Second: I bought a Roku to watch content on my television, which is where I will be watching all my content. I understand part of this company’s philosophy is divorcing the content from the television, but I would venture to say that the 30 and 40 somethings who are your customers (because we have the money to buy your product!) are watching the content on their televisions. Anyway, to echo what has been said here, the Roku channel interface is BAD. Very, very bad.
I have a 60" 1080P television, but the Roku app gives me three massive icons on the screen at a time. Why? Please, shrink, shrink, shrink! The roku app seems to require a tonne of screen changes, scrolls, etc, just to drill down to the recording you are trying to find.
The iPAD app is a good starting point for a UI, but the focus should always be: get me to my recordings with as little input, screen changes, scrolls, etc. as possible. Make it simple and usable.
@belgiangenius - Thanks for your feedback on our UIs. We’re always looking to make things better so it’s great to have this kind of specific information.
One of my favorite things about the DVR from DISH, was its ability to categorize your recordings into folders. Kid’s Movies, Sports, TV Shows, etc. This helped clean things up a lot. My apologies if this is something already available. . . just opened by Tablo box yesterday so I haven’t gotten through much yet.
@MD2020Vision - We don’t offer this as of yet, but that’s a great suggestion!
Features Parity –
New Tablo customer here. Here are some things I’d like to see (I’m sure they are already listed earlier as well)
I'm sure this has been mentioned before but specifically for recording sporting events it would be nice to have the option to extend recording 15min, 30mins past the scheduled end time. Theres nothing like DVR'ing something to have the game go into extra innings/over time and have the recording stop on ya!
I also agree with belgiangenius the Roku UI needs a face lift. Especially if you are treating it as your main streaming device. It works great but if it displayed like the IOS UI it would be even better.
@shawncrow - Pretty much all of your suggestions have been previously requested and we’re working on quite a few of them including resume playback and improvements to Roku.
@garadius - If you use a manual recording for your baseball games you can choose to record for as long as you’d like. So let’s say it’s scheduled from 1-3 p.m. you could choose to schedule from 1-4 or even 1-5 so as not to miss any big plays.
