I’ve been wondering about this off and on for a few months, ever since the community realized the big issue of not being able to watch TabloTV without Internet. Maybe @TabloTV can provide some insight.
My question is: today, with the current firmware, will the TabloTV Gen4 device still record its scheduled programs even if the Internet is down? If so, will it do so indefinitely as long as something is scheduled? If not, what would cause it to not work?
Recording a show off the RF signal and saving it to the local storage shouldn’t require Internet, right?
UPDATE: @rquinley actually did a short test last year, so it appears that Internet isn’t needed for recording scheduled programs. I didn’t see this on my initial search.
Okay, just to validate the work of @rquinley, I scheduled 3 x 10:00 AM recordings on 3 different channels on my 4-tuner Gen4 Tablo device and disconnected the Ethernet connection at 9:45 AM, I then checked to ensure I was not able to open the TabloTV app on my phone.
I reconnected the Ethernet cable to the TabloTV at 11:15 AM and pressed the bottom reset button. I returned to downstairs and opened my phone and was able to connect to the Tablo app, where I saw and watched the first couple of minutes of each recorded show.
So, it appears that the TabloTV will record scheduled shows without network connectivity. So, I think a recommendation is to schedule any show you want to watch (like the Super Bowl) and if the network goes down, you’ll at least have the recording to watch later.
