Gen4 recording volume low

Just got a new 4th gen, have been using a legacy duo lite for about 6 or 7 years. The new new 4th gen volume on recorded programs is veey, very low. Used to use volume level 20, now i need level 40 or so.

are you using a different streaming box?

No, everything else is the same.

Mine is doing the same thing - for recorded shows only, I have to turn my volume up all the way

I have both a 2 tuner and 4 tuner Tablo Gen4. The volume on recordings is much louder on the 2 tuner Tablo.

@DonnaMBell @bgscott50

Is the volume low for every recorded show? If not what kind of shows have low volume (OTA, specific channels ect.)?

If you check settings, how is audio set?

Yes, the volume is low for every recorded show on the 4 turner Tablo.

We only record OTA shows on NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX.

The audio setting on both Tablo devices is the same: “Surround Sound Passthrough Auto”

Changing the audio setting on the 4 turner Tablo does not seem to impact the volume level.

Yes, the volume is low for every recorded over the air show (I saw someone else say the same thing about their Tablo on a review site). Not sure how to check settings. Can you please answer WHY, I keep getting Tablo not found on my tv? I have to reset Tablo AND take out the plug & put it back. This is happening regularly

I have a Tablo Gen4 2 channel and the volume is very LOW using the Walmart ONN 4K streaming box (2023 model) on a Samsung OLED S90D OLED TV. Let me share with you my trouble shoot steps and hopefully Tablo can identify and correct the problem?

  1. I changed to a cheap Roku 4K express as the streaming box and the volume is back to normal.
  2. I brought a brand new Walmart ONN 4K streaming box (2023 model) and the LOW volume is back again!
  3. Disabled the surround sound on the streaming device and enable auto mode on my Samsung TV and the LOW volume is the same.
  4. Use the old ONN 4K streaming box and use a over 10 years old Samsung LED TV and the low volume issue went away.
  5. I have written to Tablo technical support and they just asked me to play with the sound setting of the Samsung OLED TV. I have attempted all the “suggestions” and it did not correct the problem.
  6. When I use the same ONN streaming device to play YouTube, or Netflix, there is no low volume issue.

Based on my weeks of trouble shootings, I have the following observations:

  • There seems to be compatibility issue with the Tablo audio with the newer generation of audio format? The LOW volume only appears in the Tablo replay in the newer TVs.

  • My box is ~1 year old. Perhaps, the other logical step to take is to change to a different Tablo Gen4 box? Will the Tablo technical support team able to loan me another box for 1 week for me to undertake this trouble shoot step?

  • Perhaps, it would be helpful to have volume control when the programming is being recorded, or replayed?

Tablo is a great / mighty device that many folks love it. Could the Tablo team really look into the issue and to offer the solution please? I’d be glad to be part of your test team to help you to participate in testing the fix. Feel free to let me know and thanks.

One other question about this issue for those who are experiencing it.

Are your recordings stored in an external hard drive, or the internal storage?

We’d need to do some troubleshooting to figure out what’s going on. Would you reach out to our support team? They should be able to help.

I save the programming in the internal storage. May I ask what make the difference?
Remember that the volume seems to be louder (normal) when I use the Roku 4K express.

I have to turn my volume setting on my Samsung OLED TV to 50+ to get the same audio level when I only need to turn it down to <20 while using the same streaming device to watch YouTube, and/or Netflix.

External drive for me, but my problem seems to have disappeared now.

Our internal drive archives OTA content to save space.

If you use an external drive,OTA video will be saved in its native MPEG-2 format.

Internal storage for me. The 2 turner Tablo volume is okay, the 4 turner Tablo recordings have a lower volume
