GEN 4 Crash When Attempting To View Legacy Units On TV

I have 4 Tablos.

Two networked legacy 4 channel.

One HDMI two channel.

One networked GEN 4.

The problem only concerns the 2 legacy networked Tablos and the 1 GEN Tablo, all used by 3 TVs.

The TVs use the Roku Sticks.

On their own, the legacy and GEN 4 Apps on all TVs operate without a hitch.

Now, the problem I constantly get is with all 3 TVs, while using the GEN 4 App to view the 2 legacy Tablos.

The GEN 4 App has no problem showing both legacy Tablos. But when I attempt to watch anything recorded or live TV on the legacy Tablos, there is a spinning wheel for 30 seconds or so, and I end up going back to the Roku App page. When I attempt to open Tablo TV Gen 4 App, it no longer opens. I have to delete and reinstall the GEN app. All is well until I make another attempt to switch to either one of the legacy units. Then it’s rinse and repeat.

The GEN Tablo has 2.2.58.

Both legacy units have 2.2.60.

The Roku units are:

Application Version 1.3.5 - 734366

Roku Model 3810CA

Roku OS 15.2.4

Application Version 1.3.5 - 734366

Roku Model 3810X

Roku OS 15.2.4

There are no problems when using an iPad.

I have restarted all Tablos, the Roku Sticks, and the router, many times.

Again, the GEN 4 App has no problem finding and connecting to both legacy Tablos, and the crash always takes place whenever I attempt to view something on the legacy units.

Another Roku:

Roku Model 4850CA Ultra

Software version 15.2

One of the TVs also has Apple TV.

Other than taking around a minute doing, “Getting the latest free shows and movies”, it worked without a hitch.

Apple TV

Application 2.1.1 (85)

Apple TV Model A2737 (128GB)

tvOS 26.5

Tried the Roku again on the same TV that Apple TV successfully worked moments before.

The Gen 4 app saw both legacy Tablos, and the Gen 4 Tablo.

Selected one of the legacy units.

Got to the legacy interface OK.

When I clicked on one of the labels on the left side, it’s back to the Roku app page.

Clicked on the Gen 4 App, “Tablo - Connecting to Tablo…” for about a minute, back to Roku app page.

Removed Gen 4 App, reinstalled it.

Had the option of selecting one of the three Tablos.

Selected the Gen 4, and the connection was successful.

Now at a standstill.

That does sound strange.

Would you reach out to Tablo Support? They may be able to help

I did at 13:30 today.

We flagged the support team. They should get back to you soon.

A few emails were sent both directions last Friday, June 19 2026, asking for more information and I giving it. I was told to delete failed recordings (No icon and/or description) on both legacies. Which I did.

On the afternoon of that day, I sent two emails. One was to inform Tablo that both Tablos had failed recordings deleted, and the problem continues.

The second email contained all the information about the three Roku Sticks connected to three TVs. Also, all the information about the three Tablo units.

I did not receive a reply to both emails.

When didn’t receive a reply by Monday afternoon, June 22 2026, I resent the two emails that were originally sent last Friday afternoon, June 19 2026. I also added that the problem still remained, and if there was any progress on a viable solution.

Did not receive a reply.

So basically it’s been radio silence on Tablos’ end.

A couple of hours ago, I tried to use the Gen 4 app on one of my TVs to connect to one of the legacy Tablos. No joy. The Gen 4 app still crashes and goes back to the Rokus’ main page that shows the apps. When I click on the Gen 4 app, there’s the spinning wheel for about 30 seconds to a minute, and back to the Roku main page.

I have to delete and reinstall the Gen 4 app to regain function of the Gen 4 app. To add, once installed, and I click on the Gen 4 app, I have the choice of selecting one of the legacy Tablos, or the Gen 4 Tablo.

To reiterate, using an iPad presents no problem. Could this be a Roku problem.

Last weekend I did a deep dive on the information about Tablos, from the Tablo website, and internet searches, to find something that might be of help.

Nothing turned up, but I did find an extremely disconcerting point. If after the legacy software disappears for good, don’t bother to clear the cache by deleting the legacy app. If anyone has the problem that I’m having with the Gen 4 app not playing nice with a legacy Tablo. You’ll have a legacy paperweight. In my case, two of them. And with hours of inaccessible recordings.

What I have been experimenting with is on the first attempt only clear the cache. If it still honks up then clear the cache and data.

Once you clear data and re-execute the app, it thinks you’re re-installing and goes through those steps.

My experience on Android mobile and Fire Stick 4k G2. The End.

Otherwise there are APK backup sites you might try. I know that the Gen4 apps are backed up there. How to install them is the question :red_question_mark:

Hello Cliqueofone,

I want to apologize for the delay in our response - I know waiting can be frustrating. A member of our escalations team will be reaching out to you today to assist with your inquiry.

Yesterday afternoon, Friday June 26 2026, Tablo got back to me.

I was informed to do a factory reset, since they couldn’t find anything else to do.

I replied, on which Tablo? If the legacies, it wasn’t going to happen. If the Gen 4, I’d think about it.

The answer back, the Gen 4.

This approach reminded of a newbie auto mechanic changing parts on a car that wouldn’t start, beginning with the rear brakes.

Since the Gen 4 app while using the Roku remote on the three TVs always made the initial connection to the legacy units successfully, as long as the Gen 4 app hadn’t already crashed, which made it totally useless. And the iPad Gen 4 app always worked connecting to both legacy units, and was quick, I decided to do an experiment.

The primary TV is also connected to an Apple TV unit via HDMI. It has both the legacy and Gen 4 app installed.

App 2.1.1

Apple TV model A2737

TV OS 26.5

Once the TV is connected to Apple TV, I use the Apple TV remote, to connect to the Gen 4 app.

The Gen 4 app does see and connect to both legacy Tablos, although it was much slower than the iPad.

It would take a minute or so for the icons of the recordings to show up, but they eventually did.

I was successful in watching and deleting recordings on the legacy Tablos, using the Gen 4 app on Apple TV.

The Gen 4 app on Apple TV never crashed, and I never did delete and reinstall the Gen 4 app, or the legacy app for Apple TV.

The only thing that I occasionally noticed, was when after selecting one of the legacy units, the screen would sometimes mention a connection error. Yet when I tap the return button on the Apple TV unit, I am connected to the legacy unit, and other than the slow icon thing, everything works as expected.

I will not be doing a factory reset on the Gen 4 Tablo.

I’ve kept reading about using an Android device.

I do have an Oukitel WP33 Pro, that I purchased about two years ago. But I got tired of all the Google Garbage on it, and inserted the SIM card into a refurbed iPhone 14 Pro Max.

So today, I got to wondering if I could use the WP33 Pro without the SIM card. After finding out that could, I downloaded the Tablo TV app. Opened up the app, and entered my email address and Tablo password. Long story short, the Tablo TV app made immediate connections to all three Tablos. No problems at all.

I then tried the iPhone. The Tablo TV app was already installed, but I had to provide my email address and Tablo password. I had the same results as I did with the WP33 Pro. Complete satisfaction.

I’m now completely convinced that the problem is the Roku sticks.

I have a 15 year old, or so, Sony laptop with Windows 10 installed. I’ll install the Tablo TV app on it and give it a whirl.

I found out this morning that there is no Tablo TV app for Windows 10. I did download the Legacy app, and it appears that it is operable.

So, unfortunately my experiments have come to a standstill concerning the Tablo TV crash that results in the app becoming inoperable, thus requiring the deletion and reinstallation of Tablo TV.

Still nothing from Tablo about the problem.

This is not copasetic.
