G4 Extend Live Feature Fails for "New" Programs

This weekend I recorded the Texas/OU college football game.

I have Extend Live turned ‘on’ yet it didn’t engage. The game ran quite long into the next two programs listed in the Live Guide.

I had to make manual recordings to capture the entire game. This resulted in 3 separate videos with 3 separate names.

Appearantly Gracenote tags ‘live’ events as ‘live’ events and yet the Extend Live function cannot engage. Tablo tags ‘live’ as ‘new’.

Does Tablo choose ‘live’ or ‘new’ going forward?

Maybe it’s a bug. An episode/show can have multiple tags. If you look at a legacy unit the legacy app shows these sports events as Live while the gen 4 app accessing the same legacy unit shows them as New. But with legacy 2.2.60 the extend live feature still extends for a worthless 30 minutes.

But I stopped worrying about tablo’s clobbered extend live. Since you now have to manually extend the recording yourself it’s just as easy to move important games onto plex DVR.

Sorry you ran into that,

The college football game should have been considered live.

A handy option might be to extend the stop time of the specific game you’d like to record.

" You can access limited advanced recording options on episode recordings by selecting EPISODE RECORDING OPTIONS on a program that has yet to air."

" EPISODE RECORDING OPTIONS are only available if the episode is NOT live."

If I understand correctly, I would not be able to use the feature after broadcast begins.

In this example I provided, the game continued beyond the first and second manual recordings and extended into a third.

In any case the tag provided by Tablo’s Live Guide is incorrect and prevents Extend Live from functioning.

Just a guess but the tags aren’t matching. New or Live.

Tags don’t match between Home and Live Guide.

Are you surprised that these types of obvious bugs still exist in the gen 4 apps. These types of bugs are usually fixed in the first 3-4 months after the app is first released. These same issues occur when connecting a gen 4 app to legacy.

The OG Legacy app shows LIVE for both LiveTV and Guide. On the Gen4 app, the Legacy device shows LIVE or UPCOMING in the Guide and NEW in the LiveTV grid. So, SNAFU.

I don’t see any tags in the TabloView for TabloTV app.

The part I love about the gen 4 app when accessing a legacy device is how unpredictable they are. Today when using the roku gen 4 app to access a legacy when I go to the “Sports” menu I only have 3 networks in the networks list ABC, CBS, and NBC. Fox which has the most sports wasn’t in the list.

That does sound frustrating, especially when the same device behaves differently depending on which app you’re using. I hope Tablo addresses these inconsistencies in a future update. It would be nice to have the same information and features displayed consistently across the Home screen and Live Guide. Has anyone found a workaround for these issues in the meantime?

Don’t hold your breath waiting for tablo to fix the gen 4 apps. Some(alot) of these have been around since 2023. The solution is Plex or hdhomerun Flex. I have Plex on Shield. So once they broke the legacy extend Live feature in release 2.2.58 I’ve moved the sports games I find critical to Plex since you now have to manually extend the ending time on tablo.

Every.Single.Post.

Well you keep reporting some old problems that haven’t been fixed. If you want the functionality you might look elsewhere. Otherwise just open a bug report.
