Format layout sucks

I’m on an onn unit. This new layout is so much harder to find anything! I hate it. Not all shows are showing up when searching by network which is difficult. Then you can’t search movies by channel. I much preferred the old layout and unfortunately was getting the hang of it when sudden changes were made that nobody asked for.

It’s almost like tablo is trying to put itself out of business. No matter how much you try to avoid the “Home” menu and it’s format, it seems to spread like a cancer. Now it’s consumed the shows, movies, and sports guide menus. I don’t think they understand that some DMA’s get multiple Fox, ABC, CBS, and NBC networks. So you have to navigate down a guide menu to channels and then navigate all the way to the right to “view all networks” just to get a list of OTA channels sorted by channel number. . I often wish I could boot a linux distro on the gen 4 so I can find something useful to do with the system.

I don’t understand why there are movies and shows that don’t appear when navigating the menus now. This never happened before! It used to show you all the programs that would be on a specific channel whether it was a movie or show. But now I know for a fact that there are things on my livetv schedule grid that are not appearing in the complicated show/movie button menus. Even when viewing all movies they still don’t show! This leaves me no choice but to keep tabs on the actual livetv schedule grid which sucks immensely.

It’s very sad that with the new firetv stick app unlike the shows menu the movie menu can’t filter by channel. Since I get 3 mexican stations which broadcast lots of movies they can’t be filtered out by selecting display by channel.

Onto the electronics scrap heap.

Haven’t noticed what everyone else is seeing on my ONN. Then again, I hate using those ‘banner style’ menu items, no matter the platform, so I try to find stuff other ways. I DO like the fact that now I have to click the ok button make a selection (just like most apps). That ‘hover’ stuff was driving me nuts (still is on my Roku). Don’t understand how functionality and navigation can be so different on each platform, i.e., click to select or not, menu at the top… no, wait, the side, etc. Don’t the app developers talk to each other? The legacy Tablo was boring, but it was also functional. Don’t need all the ‘prettiness’ that all apps seem to favor. I just want to watch TV!

I thought I was alone here – I haven’t put my 2¢ in because everyone seems to hate it. I’d much rather navigate to the function I need and THEN tell the app to go there.

As for the devs talking to one another, this seems to be a 4th Gen Tablo thing. When the AppleTV was in early beta stages, it looked a lot like the legacy version. The new layout does suck. I haven’t used my Tablo in weeks because it’s nearly impossible to “discover” something I might want to watch. Lately, I feel like although there were a ton of issues a year ago, how I used my Tablo worked better. Now, one sits completely unused while the other records shows I end up streaming instead…

I have plenty of legacy units(plus plex) to use so I use them. I only turn my gen 4 on when there is an update to see how much worse it has gotten. Roku is about the only app that is still useful. But I keep waiting for tablo to “enhance” that one.

Count me one of the thousands that hate hate hate the new vertical gui forced upon us.
The library no longer shows “new” beside sn unwatched show. I guess tablo thinks we sll have excellent memory and just “know” what we have and haven’t watched.
Let us have different skins if you are so all fired keen on your new side bar clumsy menu system.
Progress is fine. Going backwards is not. This clumsy new menu system is not progress.

Good luck. Tablo appears to be moving toward the same style of UI that others use which allows them to monetize the menus with meaningless ribbons of picks for you. They part I like is when the OTT app movies one of the more meaningful control function to the bottom of the menu. causing the user to wade through numerous ribbons of junk selections and suggestions.

TOTALLY AGREE!!! Good point and suggestion.

I have to be clear that I don’t totally hate the layout, I just hate that some functionality has been removed for the user which is frustrating.

For example the sports menu sucks! It assumes that whatever sports are listed are the only ones that appear in the guide. Completely not true because I used to be able to search for boxing and other sports as well.

The new format doesn’t seem to query the data very well. Just give us the new layout with the ability to search shows and movies and sports by channel as well as genre. And then sports by the respective guide info sports, not the limited number of sports your Home Screen crap dictates.

I dont mind the lay out and home page. But I do dislike the Movie and Show pages. I wish there was more genres.

I think its way more responsive on my Onn 4k than before.
