Flash White Light, No Blue Light But Working? 4th Gen

I got a Tablo not found message when opening APP on TV (through Roku 4k stream stick). If there is a hang up I either cycle power on Roku or Tablo, and it does the trick.

I cycled Tablo 4th Gen power. Did not get blue flashing light followed by solid blue light as I recall it always did before. After about 14 seconds after cycling power (or pushing reset briefly) WHITE FLASH (not blue).

After cycling Tablo, and also router, modem I a few times I gave up for the day.

But then I tried to view Tablo on TV next day, WORKING, with NO BLUE LIGHT. I am ethernet connected btw,

NOTE: Reading VPN may be issue (now you tell me). I have had a VPN for 2 months. I turn VPN off and back on occasionally. No Problems, until now. I currently have VPN off, but I am going to turn it on at some point. HELP!!! Ha ha.

Interesting timing on your post. I just noticed yesterday that the blue LED light wasn’t on on my Tablo Gen 4. I’ve had it on since day one. Checked the app on my android phone and Sony Bravia TV. Both have the LED indicated as ON. I’m also connected via Ethernet cable and have no issue with the functioning of the Tablo, other than the LED is off. It also works fine on my other TV that uses Roku for viewing. I have Nord VPN, but I’ve had Nord since the device was installed in Sept 2023.

I’ve cycled power on and off and have tried everything I know of to get it to work again, to no avail. It would be very odd for an LED to burn out after a year of use, but here we are, lol.

I contacted Tech Support. Very nice CSR. Basically as long as the device is working, there isn’t anything they can do about the light. We went through the basic steps of checking the settings on my various devices, turning it off and on, etc… Then they took my email to notify me if there are any other reports.

I did notice one thing that I hadn’t noticed before. The Android app on my mobile device and Android TV just have an On, or Off setting. Whereas, the Roku Ultra app has On, Dim, Off. It could have been there forever as I’ve only ever had the LED set to ON. I wonder if Roku added a setting that caused the issue? Anyway, that’s all I have to report back. Just trying to provide info. It really doesn’t matter if it’s on or off if the device is still functioning correctly, it’s just weird that the OP mentioned it at the same time that my issue arose.

I did contact Tablo CS earlier in week. Tablo CS asked I send video. Not much to show but white light flash on off. So I did thatt. Did not hear back for two days, called again today (Fri). Tablo CS asked I send video (again). I did. This Tablo CS agent said they will review to see if it is covered for warranty?

No word yet. I asked if I will lose my programs on hard drive…CS said “Probably not”. Yep if it’s just the light I will keep it vs losing recordings… The unit is about 10 mo old.

Good tip Tony. I checked my Roku App and android App and mine has LIGHT ON and OFF in both. It is set to ON. I am not too upset about the lack of blue light.

I don’t know. I am waiting on CS. They had me take video of the white light flash. She mentioned possible replacement. I asked about losing my Hard drive data (because new Tablo, if we go down that road) may not recognize it.

CS mentioned “I see you have several updates”? I did not press her what she meant. I checked update and it said I am update on software.

The VPN is likely something that may have got my Tablo 4th Gen mad at me. It’s like being married. I don’t know what I did ? ha ha,

I am new to VPN and noticed with it on when I go to trusted sites I typically use that require a log in, there are issues or it requires me to log in, jump through hoops, due to a new IP. I just turn the VPN off and all is well.

Since there are several people with same issue. It might be a THING? Don’t know if you remember the the initial release some bugs had to worked out. They fixed it with SW update. May be we got a bad update? As you say as long as it works… I am good.

Update: Tablo Support just offered to replace my Tablo due to the LED failure. I’m hesitant because I don’t think it’s possible to transfer my library from the old Tablo to the new one. Can you let me know if it’s possible yet to use the HDD from the current Gen 4 to transfer my recordings library to the new one, if I go along with the replacement. Thanks

I’m wondering now of mine has the same issue. I just posted about my dead Tablo. Same message about no connection. Went and looked, no lights. Cycled power several times, no lights. I will plug it back in when I get home and see if I can get it to with with no LEDs.

Mine is fully functional otherwise, it’s just the light that isn’t working. That’s why I’m not sure if a replacement is worth it because I’d probably lose all of my current recordings, since I don’t believe that they’ve implemented a way to transfer HDD info from one Tablo Gen 4 to another yet.
