We bought two 4th Gen Tablos because we really love our old Tablo. Turns out the 4th Gen is a downgrade with no remote connect option. We accepted that, and just kept the old one working in parallel. But this problem with the latest firmware is just ridiculous. Rookie software engineers know better than to rollout an update without fully testing it. The fact that Tablo rolled untested firmware and has made no effort to allow users to roll back to the olf version is insane. The responsible Product Manager and their boss should both be fired… I spent an hour trying to figure out how to roll back the firmware myself, but no real option… any ideas out there?
Has there been any new firmware rolled out since July 2nd? That’s almost 4 months ago.
Are you part of the beta team, because the beta team tests firmware releases. There is no “untested firmware” released.
Are you referring to the latest Roku OS 14 update problem? That is not going to be fixed by a Tablo firmware rollback. And Tablo has no control over rolling back a Roku OS update.
l don’t know if there are other hardware folks here or not. I have been tempted to pull my tablo board and JTag some components, where the firmware resides. Then at any point in time I could write the image back to exactly where it is now whenever I wanted to. I have to tell you I would be REALLY reluctant to update a legacy Tablo since they run flawlessly in my home — unless I had such a backup image ready if needed.
I imagine such a task could be completed on the newer units as well.
If “Tablo team” wanted to they could release the older software as a file and then allow us to write it back with some designated commands, or so it could be configured.
I did that all the time with Satellite receivers back in the day. Don’t ask, LOL!
Having same problem and they know it’s a problem.Tablo says they are working on it. Roku has avoided us.
Just bought the 4th gen 4 tuner a few weeks ago. Of course the first thing I had to do was get the update for the device from my phone app. My TV app wouldn’t even connect to it until then.
- The app for Samsung TV’s, it repeats the last second of a commercial in an endless loop every commercial break on the streaming content.
- On AppleTV latest model every 20-40 minutes, I get a freeze frame, a spinning icon in the upper right, and it’ll sit like that until I back completely out and back in. This happens on OTA channels and streaming services.
- When I power off the TV or the AppleTV to leave for a while, when I return and I open Tablo app, it’s frozen on the last frame of video of the program I was watching when I turned it off.
- Closed Captioning there’s only 1 setting - on or off. Can’t change the font, color, position, highlighting/background, nothing. And if it’s turned off, the TV isn’t getting the captioning from the stream to provide my TV’s CC options.
- When I go through to edit the channel list, if I re-enter to edit the list, all the channels I turned off are back on by default.
And that’s just the beginning of my experiences with what I was told was an excellent line of products.
The UI is clunky and very limited in features. The various apps seem to have differing problems.
Sorry you’re running into such.
This article might help: Buffering vs. Pixelization - Is the Problem with my WiFi Network or My Antenna? – Tablo. It’s about buffering and pixelization but the troubleshooting is solid for many issues.
If that fails, Would you consider reaching out to our technical support team: https://tablotv.com/support/#contact? They may be able to assist.
Support has added me to the beta program. I hope to make suggestions to them for improvements as well as bug fixes.
