The thumbnails for fast forward work well on recordings. Is it possible to make it work the same way on recordings in progress? I use this all the time to watch shows delayed by a few minutes so i can skip through commercials. It is currently difficult to do since only the line with time is displayed as you fast forward so guessing where the commercials may end is difficult.

I believe the reason is because the thumbnails are generated after the entire show has been recorded. So they wouldn’t exist until then.

Maybe they could be generated as its recording.
They use a tuner to generate the thumbnails, so you would need two tuners for every show recorded or watched live.
I agree, that would be a really nice feature, but I don’t expect it anytime soon. As pointed out, the thumbnails are generated as part of the process of closing out a recording. I believe that there is some technological obstacle to generating them on-the-fly that they have yet to find a way around.
Maybe they could display a smaller version of the recording as you fast forward it rather than thumbnails or even full size?
