Email from Tablo

I have received two emails from Tablo urging me to replace my legacy unit with a new Gen 4 unit and a $40 discount. I have searched this forum for info on the legacy update to gen 4 and everyone says “if it ain’t broke dont fix it”. To many issues with the Gen 4 unit and the legacy unit just keeps on performing.

Any thoughts or comments?

I bought my 4 tuner legacy unit right before Tablo discontinued them, and glad I did.
Figured I would wait a year for them to get the bugs out before getting the G4.
Well, it’s been over a year an still lots of issues.
I’ll keep my legacy until it dies.

Not sure why they are prompting you to get the G4, other than to get a sale.

EDIT: I guess for $40 off, I’d buy one just for the heck of it, and to see what I like/dislike about it.
I didn’t get the email. Guess Tablo doesn’t love me anymore (if they ever did). haha

If you use apple tv, do NOT go to the new Gen 4 unit. I bought the new unit and it has been awful. I can record shows, but it does not show up on my tablo using my apple tv. I can see the recorded shows on my iphone. I have contacted tablo support, but they are worthless. I finally just went back to the legacy system which works.

Since I live in Canada, the offer is absolutely of no use to me.
Tablo has basically abandoned Canadian users.
I wish I had purchased a few more ChannelMaster+ units before they become no longer available.

Take the deal. Keep the legacy and use the gen 4 for overflow and the internal storage. Especially if you are using Roku and Android STB’s.

I am using the legacy unit with Amazon Firestick with no issues. Undecided if I want to purchase the gen 4 unit.

Can I set up and run both the legacy unit and gen 4 unit at the same time on the Firestick?

Got the same email. I don’t think they will ever release an update to the legacy. I don’t think they have the technical knowhow to do it or fix the 4. They would rather sell the gen4. Legacy works OK even though a bit flaky at times so why buy a 4 giving the problems some users have had with it.

Yes. They both use a different app. I have both hooked up and they work well.

tablo sells factory refurb gen 4 2 tuners @ $60. you may want to get one just to play with if 2 tuners suffice for you. like @zippy suggests run 2 gens sidebyside.

FWIW seems to me tablo turned a corner around the end of football season and for me, using roku ultra, it’s been working quite OK. tablo has announced a pending roku update and I hope that goes smoothly.

Well, I received an email this morning (3/17) urging me to “Don’t Miss Your Chance” to save $40 off with a code that was in a March 9 email, which I never recieved. Why not include the code in the second email too in case someone didn’t get the first email? And why not ensure that it arrived by 3/16, not the day after it expires?

Still have reservations about the Gen 4 with no outside the home viewing, now Windows viewing, and all the problems I read about.

Do you have two antenna’s, one for each Tablo?

Other than FAST channels, I don’t see the benefit of changing to the Gen4 device. You may be able to find most of those on a Roku or FireStick device.

The other benefit is no subscription fee.

Yes, I only use one antenna. I use an indoor “mud flap” antenna because it works for me. From the antenna I have a 5g filter then I split the signal. On the line going to the Legacy I use the amplifier that came with the antenna. On the Gen 4 side I don’t use any amplification, even from the device itself. Haven’t had any issues.

I bought a Gen 4 2 tuner device on ebay for $40 just to see how it compared with my (now discontinued and unsupported) Amazon Recast. Honestly, aside from the constant-on internet requirement, it has been perfect. I wouldn’t hesitate to get a new one for $40 off.
