Cannot get Tablo to connect to eero mesh router network. Eero gateway connected to Century Link dsl modem and Tablo connected to gateway using ethernet splitter (gateway does not have enough ports for all accessories). Any help would be appreciated.
Sounds like you are trying to run two ethernet cables into the splitter and then the one from the splitter to the gateway.
If that is what you are trying to do, it won’t work.
The splitter requires another splitter to work.
2 cables with signals running over the one out of the splitter have to go back into a splitter then to two cables.
Not many cases where that would be useful.
There are 8 wires in an ethernet cable. Ethernet uses 2 specific pairs of wire.
The splitter sends one ethernet cable signals over the normally unused pair.
It needs a splitter on the other end to send the signals back to their appropriate wires.
You need a switch.
Here’s a cheap one that will give you 4 ports to use:
Here is what I am using:
[Link TL-SG105, 5 Port Gigabit Unmanaged Ethernet Switch, Network Hub, Ethernet Splitter, Plug & Play, Fanless Metal Design]
This won’t work?
Log into your Erro Mesh router and check if you have enough IP’s left over to use?
May need to lower your lease times, so you router will let go of the IPs quicker and free them up.
I would be surprised if all the addresses are used but if @Glb1945 has over 200 devices on the network I guess it’s possible.
I have an eero system (6e Pro) and a 5 port switch connected as @02ebz06 described and all works well. I would troubleshoot this way:
- Connect the Tablo directly to the eero. In the eero app see that it shows up on the list of devices. If it doesn’t then you have other problems.
- Unplug the Tablo from the eero and connect the switch with nothing else connected to it, then plug the Tablo into the switch. Again, go back to the eero app to ensure it is still showing up.
- Plug your other wired network devices into the switch and check the app for those devices.
I also would suggest setting a reservation for the Tablo in the eero so it always gets the same IP address.
Switch should be fine. I thought you had a splitter.
I only have 15 devices on my network.
Sorry I used the wrong term. Things are a bit more complicated because I am using MOCA to convert my Coax into Ethernet and the Coax is also carrying the antenna signal.
Good advice. Will give it a go.
Do both the century link and the eero have their DHCP servers enabled.
Yea… MOCA is trash. if you’re using MOCA… go buy yourself a decent meshing system with a few nodes.
Trash from the perspective of availability of Wifi and or cabling.
Obviously, some time ago, could be argued much better than Wifi, but that was then…
Still, sometimes, you use what you have to use.
Not so. Early on many wifi disconnects. Had coax throughout house and MoCA provided Ethernet speeds and reliability. Recently purchased an eero system so will reserve judgement until further experience. But already Tablo will not connect to eero using Ethernet or wifi. Have gone thru all steps recommended by employee and there are serious flaws in Tablo software and hardware. Reviews on Amazon are terrible. Getting ready to return.
IMO the eero system is great as well as the Tablo. I can’t say anything about MoCA since I have never used it, but I think it is the cause of your issues.
If you have connected the Tablo directly to the eero gateway with ethernet (no MoCA device) and it still won’t connect than possibly could be a defective unit, but I would venture to guess that isn’t the problem. In case you were not aware the eero is not MoCA compliant so you would need a MoCA device at each end, if not connecting directly as mentioned. BTW, what eero system do you have and how many eero devices make up your mesh network?
Have you gone through the steps I suggested? As I am not an employee I wasn’t sure.
Again, IMO there may be flaws but not so serious. Usually when there are connectivity issues, as @KimchiGUN and others mention, it is the network setup that is the problem.
For every 1 bad review there are many that haven’t submitted a review although the Tablo is working great for them (me included). Also, some people bash and exaggerate unnecessarily because they can’t get it to work (for a myriad of reasons, mostly on their end) and are understandably frustrated.
Good luck with what you decide to do. I and others are willing to try and help solve the problem if you wish.
I would add to that how much the product has improved since release. I’m 9 months in and I would say that the TabloTV app and firmware have gotten so much better than where we started from that anything older than 2 months no longer represents this device.
Agreed. But know that if you’re not taking the advice offered or asking about something that’s been answered a hundred times before, people can get a bit frustrated. But we try to help out as much as we can. It’s a great product and hopefully you will see this over time.
I know I’ve seen multiple Eero issues throughout this forum, and I can only assume that others have worked their way through them. You made the right first step in reaching out. Good luck!
It is not the consumers job to debug a tech product.
I am not a newbie and am quite technical. I had no problem setting up the eero by following the instructions. The Tablo on the other hand is a different matter. I will provide a specific example of how bad things are. The employee gave me a list of steps to go thru and I did all of them (had tried many of them before). Included in the instructions was a link stating how an iPhone should be set up. The link stated that when setting up wifi a screen would appear asking “is this the wifi you want to connect to?”, but 2 diiferent iPhones said to go to settings then wifi and look for Tablo-xxx. Sorry but this product is a piece of junk. I spent too many hours of my time thinking it was my problem when it is clearly not. BTW the Moca was not connected during any of this. I know how to debug
technical product issues.
I didn’t mean to offend you. I didn’t know your level of expertise. These are the things I do know.
- I have an eero Pro 6E system with 2 devices (both Pro 6E) in my mesh.
- My Tablo 4th Gen works flawlessly.
I’ve set my Tablo up both wired and wireless at different times and both ways worked without a hitch.
I do not think the Tablo is a piece of junk. I’m sorry you are experiencing these problems.
Awesome! I think if we had an idea of the things you’ve tried, we can avoid offering solutions you know won’t work. I’d be interested in reading what steps TabloTV has asked you to take as well as what things you’ve done on your own. The more details you’re able to provide, the better people can help!
I saw at least one question @exwxman95 asked that wasn’t answered.

Open the app and follow the instructions given below link for further steps [iPhone]:
During setup don’t connect any External Hard Drive.
Make sure the VPN is not connected to any of your devices, Ensure the Tablo and your devices are connected to the Same WiFi Network.
Please feel free to write back if you need any more help.
Thank you,
Rudy
I am using the previous version of eero with 3 units, one on each level of the house. They are working great. I suspected a defective Tablo unit but the employee stated that was not the case.
