Here’s an awesome feature that would expand Tablo’s audience into the corporate/commercial sector: Have an HDMI input on the Tablo Tuner/DVR box that could show up on the Tablo App. That way an output of any device could be accessible to all smart TVs on the WLAN. Churches, Corporate Offices, Homes etc. would eat this up. Tablo could charge a premium for the Tuner/DVR box with this feature and we would pay it.
Interesting idea, but not sure how Tablo would implement that because it would basically require “capturing” the video from that HDMI input and saving it locally in the current format Tablo uses so that it can then be distributed the same way “normal” Tablo content is.
I believe the tuner(s) inside the Tablo convert the off-air RF signals into H264 video streams. Doing that to an HDMI input is even simpler - it might require another chip but shouldn’t be a big deal. I have a use-case in a church right now.
Understood, as you say would definitely require a new hardware revision to add the HDMI input and as you say potentially another chip.
Here’s a thought, just get everything working now.
And add all the common sense legacy app features that are missing. I then might actually turn the device back on. But with it’s current architecture of dependency on the tablo servers, it’s not a viable long term solution.
Don’t disagree with this. I’ve been a bit surprised there isn’t a bit more feature parity between the legacy and 4th gen apps.
What is the source of the video you are trying to distribute throughout the screens of your church?
… or get one of these and convert your HDMI to ATSC2.0…
