We have Tablo with Roku. I know there are currently problems with Tablo but is continuous buffering part of the problem? When we are finally able to record a show, we try to play it back but can’t watch it due to the buffering.
Any ideas?
I have not heard buffering as an issue with the current outage. You might want to check/verify your network health. I assume this is a new issue for you?
You may also want to share some more details on your configuration at home (networking, devices, antenna, etc) so that the forum can assist better.
@Mel1 - I see you signed up two days ago so may I assume you just started using a Tablo? If so, you may need to validate your network as the Tablo is sensitive to poor network signal as @FishingDB alluded to.
I also agree that this buffering probably isn’t part of the outage/server issues that Tablo has been experiencing.
How is your Tablo connected to your network? How is your Roku connected to your network?
I’ve been having constant buffering issues this afternoon trying to watch the fedex cup. Earlier in the day I set my dvr to record the program so I could watch it later. I tuned in a couple hours after it had started but chose to watch it live. I’ve had nothing but constant buffering issues whether watching live or the recording. I’m trying to understand how watching a recording on my local HD is buffering. It got so frustrating I decided to watch it via my antenna directly via my TV. This isn’t the first time I’ve had buffering issues but this afternoon it has been fairly constant. My internet connection runs 300mbps down and 30mbps up.
Can you provide more details on your home network configuration?
Also, what is doing the recording? Internal Tablo HD or external device? If external, is it on the recommended list provided by tablo?
Keys that made a difference for me:
- Hard wiring - I moved my entire environment (Router, switches, streaming devices, TVs, Mesh Wifi) after seeing buffering issues.
- Cables. Make sure you don’t have old network cables. Make sure your cables are 5e or better. If the cable doesn’t clearly state 5e or better throw it out.
- Very speed to each device or at least the switches. You can do this by running speed tests from a laptop at each connection. This helped me find bad cables.
The network is connected properly, signal strength excellent, download speed is 219MBPS, all other streaming apps working without buffering. We are nit new to tablo, we are on our aecond one, this being the 4th Gen system.
No, not new to the Tablo. Just joined the community recently. Connections excellent. Signal strength great.
Are you using an external hard drive?
Also, Tablo isn’t the same as other streaming apps like Max or Hulu or YouTube. Tablo requires your home network be in tip top shape.
When you say “Signal strength excellent” , does that mean you are using Tablo over WiFi?.
If using WiFi with your Tablo, I recommend reading this
Yes.
FWIW, last night (8/09/2025 @ 20:49 hrs CDT) we had a 30+ second spinning wheel buffering event while watching live TV that was paused earlier for 3-4 minutes for a phone call. My wife and I looked at each other because we just don’t see these things anymore.
It didn’t happen again, so we’re on the lookout for it.
Thank you for your responses! We are checking everything over today…Hopefully we’ll have a solution that I can share here!
Yes, we are disconnecting and reconnecting things today and hopefully we will find problem. Thanks!
Make sure you try restarting your router and Tablo.
Yes, we’ve tried everything. Still no resolution.
