Since the last firmware update, I’ve had issues on all my devices with Tablo buffering. I have iPhone, firestick 4k’s and I’ve tried rebooting Tablo multiple times, clearing cache on device apps & data, reinstalling the apps and even tried adjusting the antenna. Finally, I decided to disconnect Tablo and go direct from my TV to my antenna without Tablo connected and all my stations work perfectly without pausing or buffering. The streaming channels work fine but all the local channels have the same issue. I have the 4tuner 2nd gen Tablo that worked great for a long time without issues and with the most recent update, it’s become a hockey puck. I have a 2TB external drive with over 150+ recordings of movies and series. I even erased and cleared over 650GB off the external with zero improvement. I completely disconnected the external HD and had no effect. I noticed all the recent recordings have the same thing happening so I can’t even try pre-recording and watching stuff later because the recording get the same buffering in them. I don’t know what else to do but throw the Tablo into garbage.
Is anyone else experiencing this? My Wi-Fi is 1000Mbps download and 1000Mbps upload and I tested and my wifi is fine.
Out of curiosity, did you reboot the Tablo after the update? I know it does it by itself, but I always do another reboot after its back up and running.
In my experience, I’ve had at least 3 FW updates that seemed like it ruined my system. A reboot has fixed all of them and now I’m in the habit of doing it every time.
Apologies if you’ve already done this. You had great detail in the other things you’ve tried that I wanted to make sure.
Yes, thank you! I just ran a cable directly to my tv and at least I can watch with the guide that the firestick provides. I am even able to pause and rewind but can’t record so hoping Tablo figures out a fix.
Appreciate your suggestions. Amp was on and I turned it off but it still appears to be buffering every 15-25 seconds on all the OTA stations. I will try performing a rescan and see if that helps.
I just completed a rescan and I noticed that the last rescan was back in May so it was long overdue. It’s now updating the guide and hopefully that makes huge improvement.
I noticed that the number of green ota channel’s had jumped from 92 to 98.
I’ll let you know what happens shortly because the guide just finished updating.
My ota channels never disappeared off the guide but once it in while it would take 10-15 seconds for the guide to load when you first brought up Tablo.
Unfortunately, I made all the changes but still going into buffering every 15-25 seconds on all the ota channels.
I’m not sure if it’s more than normal, but I still get occasional buffering and “failed to decode …” errors for no apparent reason. This never occurs on recordings … only watching live. I have 2 Sony TVs with Google TV, and 2 other TVs with FireTV sticks. Pretty much the same experience in either ecosystem, which is basically Android.
I am an experienced user who spends plenty of time on this forum, I have excellent equipment from the antenna to the TVs (both coax side and hard-wired ethernet side). I have excellent RF signals from the antenna. My main Sony TV USB 3.0 internet/ethernet speed tests at over 500mbit/s, and I stream Sony Core 4K IMAX movies at up to 80mbit/s without a stumble (stunning 4K HDR picture and multi-channel digital surround sound).
It’s the Tablo and its software that continues to be buggy and slow to improve. It works for me in general, but I have yet to get it “perfect”. The Android based app is still wonky sometimes, and features seem to come and go with different versions. From what I read, that’s true for its other variants, as well. It’s so frustrating.
Update: I decided to upgrade my wifi from a wifi-6 network to a wifi-7 network with a 1250 Mbps upload/download and now everything on my network is blazing fast and even Tablo isn’t having any buffering issues. Not exactly what I would recommend as a solution but my ISP made an offer I couldn’t refuse so I made the change.
Thought something was fishy. Yes, I’m getting buffering since the update. No change in network that was working perfectly for a while and yes rebooted to attempt to clear it. Also rebooted roku and my intranet.
