Complaints after 4 months

Well after having a Tablo unit for 4 months I only have 2 complaints.

  1. It takes too long to boot up. Always have to back out and come in again. Always takes at least 3 minutes.

  2. When scrolling down the channel guide it snags/doesn’t scroll smoothly in a timely manner and worse it sometimes kicks me all the way out of the app!

Maybe the techs will see this post and address those issues. Other than those 2 problems I’m happy with the unit.

What streaming devices are you using? If you have more than one, do you have the same behavior on all of them?

Just one,the Gen 4 (white).

What KGBnut is asking is what streaming box you are using to watch the Tablo app. Roku, Amazon Firestick, Chromecast, etc. Each has their separate quirks and problems
If you let us know what STB you are using, maybe we can help with the problems you are seeing.

It’s on an Apple Fire TV. I had to download the free app from Amazon’s website to get it to work. I’m an old fart who clearly remembers when there was only 4 TV channels, and they all signed off at midnite! So getting the Internet on my TV is kinda freaking me out.

68 here, so I know how you feel.
I think you mean an Amazon Fire TV.
Is it a stick or a box.
How old is the Fire TV. Older units don’t have enough memory to load everything at once, thus the long load time.
Connected by Wi-Fi or Ethernet? Wi-Fi interference could be a problem.
There could be other things but these are fairly easy to check.
Let us know if this works or not and we can go from there.

Yea it might be an Amazon TV. It’s 24 inch Insignia brand TV made in 2024 I think. I had to buy a wifi router to get it to work. Wifi signal to Tablo unit and a cable to my PC box. Personally I think it’s Tablo’s software causing the problems but who knows. They have sent 3 updates since I’ve had it and I didn’t notice any change or improvements.

Can you connect your Tablo by Ethernet? Or is it in a bad spot? That might help with the scrolling.
The only Insignia 24’’ Fire TVs I see on amazon are 2022 models. Unfortunately I don’t know enough about them to know if there is a memory problem. My suggestion if you can afford it is to buy an ONN Google TV 4K Streaming Box. That seems to be rock solid.

For Fire TV (and other Android-base devices) it can often be better to exit out of the Tablo (hitting the back/exit button several times until it asks if you want to exit) rather than pressing the Home button. This may solve your long boot problem and the need to get out and back in.

The problems are not major enough for me to take any drastic actions. I’ll just live with them and hope Tablo’s future updates might help with the problems.
