Hello , I have Spectrum and I’m wondering what the difference is with that and Tablo ?
Spectrum as in cable TV and internet?
Tablo is a DVR that you use in conjunction with a good quality TV antenna to get your local channels over the air, free of charge. It also includes about 70 streaming channels that are delivered over the internet.
Once you purchase the Tablo there are no monthly fees. To use a Tablo, you need a good antenna, and a TV with a streaming device, like a Roku (instead of a cable box like you likely have with Spectrum). These you may need to purchase separately if you don’t already have them. You also need a stable internet connection,
We switched from Spectrum TV/Internet to Google fiber/Tablo OTA. Haven’t looked back. Started with Spectrum 3 years ago for $100/mo. Dumped them last October after they’d hiked the price up to $200+ over 3 years!
You’ll probably need a good antenna and careful installation/setup to go this route.
@KGBnut and @sktn77a should also mention that once you buy the equipment (a streaming device like Roku or Onn, an antenna, and a Tablo) and get this running, you won’t have another monthly payment, unless you use or add streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, etc. This one-time cost is typically 1 to 2 month’s worth of cable costs. Cutting cable was the best thing we did years ago to lower our entertainment costs.
ALSO!..don’t let them (Spectrum) fool you into keeping their Internet service - it’s just a way to keep their foot in your door. Get fiber that’s not coupled with “cable” channels if you can or one of the wireless Internet providers like T-Mobile or Verizon.
Good luck - let us know how you do.
