Coming Soon on Roku v. 0.8.800

As I continue to explore version 0.8.800, I feel compelled to give some feedback. In the library in the previous version there was a section called “Scheduled.” This has now been replaced by “Coming Soon.” As I familiarize myself with the new version I have to say that I much preferred the layout of “Scheduled.”

Before the update, “Scheduled” showed you all shows/movies programmed to record, listed in alphabetical order… one tile for each show. You could click into these to see upcoming episodes or make changes to the programming, including canceling recording. You could do this whether or not there were any new episodes upcoming and scheduled to record.

With the new “Coming Soon” you can only review shows that have a scheduled recording in the duration of the program guide, usually two weeks. If there is no upcoming airing in the schedule you cannot access the show to change or cancel the recording. Also, the programs are listed in the order that they will air, not alphabetically, so it takes more time to locate the program you want to edit, assuming it is even there.

I do see some value to the “Coming Soon” layout, but really miss the old layout. Perhaps both could be included, maybe with one as a submenu of the other, or perhaps a preference in the settings.

I’m curious what others think.

Thanks, I know the folks at Tablo are working hard to make the best product they can.

Coming soon seems similar to the legacy. In the Legacy Scheduled, there is Upcoming (not at home, so hope I remember the right terms.) That just lists the next 2 weeks in order of recording, with closest first.
There is also an All selection, which lists every program that is set up for recording, even if there are none coming up.

It’s another feature they’ve removed in their crap UI update. It’s turned the whole UX into a nightmare. There’s way too many extra clicks to get to the same place/feature/view than in the prior layout.

Even a simple action like entering your recordings to play the ONLY file requires multiple down-over clicks. WTF Tablo.

Unlike the legacy firetv stick app, the legacy roku app could accomplish most things with a minimum of clicks. But the gen 4 apps seem destined to require lots of clicks to accomplish very little.

The marketing dept. believes that customers are attracted by more advertisable “features”. It’s true whether for cars, refrigerators, running shoes, whatever. So we just need to get with the program and agree that new features=good.

I can get used to the extra clicks as long as they work. But the more clicks there are, the greater the chance that some won’t work as expected.

With the new Roku app, Tablo worked OK, then after a couple days it got very slow for me again, (and I was still on Roku 13) but not as slow as it usually was before the September opening weekend of football fiasco. In a goofy way this was progress.

This morning I turned the sets on and saw that Roku had auto updated to 14 overnight I guess. And I had no sound just picture from all Roku apps. Everything had been working yesterday. Unplugged the soundbar and Roku, turned off TV, then restarted everything and the sound was back. Phew.

Never a dull moment.

Thank god the gen 4 isn’t the only game in town.
