Can't complete tablo setup

I have a gen 4 Tablo that I am trying to setup. I downloaded the app to my iphone and followed the directions. I created an account, configured the antenna and then moved onto the wifi setup. I connected to the Tablo_xxx sid, my home network was found, entered the credentials. The first time it connected, I was prompted to upgrade the firmware and did so. The app never finds the Tablo to complete setup. If I press the reset button, the Tablo light will eventually go solid. Speaking with support, they see it connected to the wifi. My router is an Linksys running the ExpressVPN app firmware. I can see the Tablo in the connected devices. I added both the iphone doing the setup and the tablo to the exceptions list so they are not VPN’d. I don’t see why that should matter, as all devices on my LAN can communicate with each other just fine as the VPN starts from the router, not the connected device. I keep my Roku and FireStick devices as a VPN exception or Hulu Live will barf saying I switched locations.

I’ve gone so far as to reset everything (router, phone, Tablo) multiple times. I’ve done a factory reset multiple times. It always hangs in the Tablo app after it says Wi-Fi Setup Complete. I’ve tried doing the setup from an Android device on the wifi and it hangs at the same spot. When I check the MAC address on the Tablo website it says my device is connected. The device itself has a solid blue light. I’ve tried hardwiring my Tablo device into my router and doing a factory reset. When hardwired, the app immediately comes back and says no Tablo device found.

Support said they would email me back and nothing yet. Very very frustrated that there isn’t some type of manual configuration or log files. So far I’ve done nothing but waster hours and hours of time trying to get this thing working.

Any ideas?

Is there any client isolation going on?

Update - I did a factory reset at least 5 more times and eventually was able to get it configured with my old Android phone.

Now I can access the Tablo from either my iphone or android device, but none of the Roku, Firesticks or Google TV devices can find it. My entire network is behind an ExpressVPN router including the Tablo DVR. I suspended the VPN while setting up and re-enabled after. I’ve made VPN exceptions for for all of the Roku, Firesticks and Google TV’s so Hulu doesn’t contantly barf about changing locations.

I have tickets in with both ExpressVPN and Tablo as I suspect the ExpressVPN firmware for my Linksys router is blocking something on the internal network.

Pardon my ignorance about VPNs. Does that mean your Roku, Firestick and Google TV devices get a different public ip address than what your phones and Tablo get?

I think that might by a problem. I’m not sure but I suspect the apps get info about your Tablo by searching Nuvyyo’s servers for a matching public ip address. If the public ip addresses don’t match the apps can’t find the Tablo.

Try browsing to My Status - Tablo TV with a device that uses the VPN and with one that does not.
