You guys spend way too much time having to fix Roku rather than fixing all the other problems that need to be fixed. Kick Roku support to the curb and fix everything else already.
As a ROKU house I disagree.
Same… as @davistw
edit: as I am a Roku house too.
Roku will get fixed, then it will be another box’s turn in the hot seat.
Roku has better than a 50% market share in the streaming market. Ending support for Roku would be a huge mistake.
Says the guy with no Roku units. We have 4. Almost everyone I know has at least 1 Roku.
Roku is working great with my Legacy Tablo. It is about the only device that works with no issues with my unit. The Samsung app sux, and the Android app is not really useful to me as I do not watch Tablo on my phone.
Sure stop supporting the number 1 sold and top selling device ever. Makes good business sense. Should really be the other way around, stop the Apple and Android support and concentrate on Roku.
Problem really comes with all the people still trying to use 5-10 year old ones and never upgrade. I got the newest about a month old 2024 Ultra and best thing I ever did.
@rkkeller - ditto. Now’s the time to get the 2024 Ultra for 20% off.
Actually my old Roku stick works perfectly fine with My Tablo, Its models that went to OS 14 that have the issue, and I believe just some of them. If people complained as much on the Roku site as they do here the problem might get resolved.
Edit:
I just tried the OS14 Roku with My Tablo and it does not work will not play
Model 3600RW
I only use it out of the house so I normally don’t use the Tablo app. Back to the firestick. They are having big sales on them currently.
Tried the fix and it worked, set digital output to custom Dolby digital/DTS off.
You probably need to upgrade your device anyway - it’s already 8 years old. You should at least get a Wifi6-compatible device which will help a lot with speed (if your wifi network supports it).
Model: Roku Streaming Stick (3600)
Released: Apr 2016
Odd as it sounds when I go somewhere and my Firestick wont work that old Roku does. Its pretty much on travel duty now. Plus I can leave it at a friends and just get it later.
I have 7 Rokii and 3 Tablos. I haven’t had or been able to duplicate a lot of the problems that people have found. I can live with the few problems that I have since they’re really not that irritating. I also understand what the Tablo development team has to contend with after I spent a lifetime doing system development.
Tablo would have very few problems if they were able to develop a totally self contained system. That would be a television with the Tablo integrated into the TV.That would eliminate the need for the Roku. The remote control would be used to do the Tablo setup. No need for Android, IOS or any other deviced to depend on. The Legacy HDMI Tablo comes closest to the ideal. The problem with that approach is that the Tablo will only work with the one TV. The whole home feature is lost.
Having to depend on external controllers that they have no control over is the pits. For example: a lot of real progress was being made with the Roku interface and problems were being knocked off. Then Roku comes out with the evil 14 that breaks a lot of things that used to work (it didn’t affect my Rokii and I don’t know why). 14 opened up a whole new can of worms that Tablo has to fix, but Tablo can’t fix it until Roku makes a change. Roku changed something that impacts the way Roku handled the interaction between the Tablo and the Roku.
Tablo has to first figure out what Roku changed before they can work up a fix. They then submit the fix to Roku and sit on their thumbs, possibly for months, waiting for Roku to install the fix. Roku will wait until they have their own changes ready to install. Here’s hoping that they don’t break anything else.
My wife of 60 years and I love our Tablo.
I have struggled with trying to figure out what is the proper plural of ‘Roku.’ I ultimately decided that it is like ‘deer,’ ‘fish,’ and ‘fox,’ it can be both singular and plural… One Roku… many Roku…
Thoughts?
Foxes is the plural form of fox, as first used back in 1977-78 on SNL.
