My Gen4 unit occasionally will get stuck buffering/repeating the same segment on a channel. Other channels work fine. If I return to the failing channel it will continue to keep buffering/repeating the failing segment even if I try to watch live TV. Sometimes it repeats the segment constantly without buffering. Sometimes the repeated segment is 10 seconds long sometimes a minute or two.
We had this buffering and skip back/repeat occur a few times today while watching Kelly and Mark on Fox in D/FW market. Very interesting. I tried to get a video of it after occurring 3 different times, but it didn’t happen a 4th time. However, this screen eventually comes up.
I see the same thing. Usually in the evening when signal quality tends to degrade a bit in my area. I just posted a feature request to simply add an option to disable the live TV recording features. I believe this is what is causing the “stuck in a loop” behavior.
I have experienced many different buffering issues. Few if any are related to internet or LAN performance. I do believe some errors are related to using an older ROKU, and packets from the Tablo getting lost or unsynced.
This particular error is unique because I can switch to a different Live channel and it will work fine. Then, 30 minutes later, switch back to the offending channel and see the same hour-old segment loop playing over and over. And nothing but a power reset will allow me to view that channel again.
There the ROKU and LAN are unlikely to be part of this particular problem.
I see exactly the same behavior. Sometimes I can get out of the “bad loop” by hitting the FF right arrow on my remote at just the right time. Sometimes I have to do a power cycle. It’s definitely related to the live TV recording functionality. It’s like it records the “bad data” that causes the glitch, then tries to “recover” the live TV stream by going back to the “bad” recording. This needs to be fixed.
interesting. I’ve tried hitting the FF button, and all the others, but haven’t ever succeeded in escaping out of the loop. I have noticed that even after normally leaving a particular TV channel I can come back to that channel and still rewind Live Tv into the past. I havent experimented much, but this is a desirable feature - and might be related to the bug.
This behavior is getting worse. It is now happening randomly on different channels practically every time I watch TV. Recordings seem to be fine, but it’s getting to the point I can’t watch live TV on the Tablo anymore. When I switch to watching the same channel directly on the TV tuner, everything is fine. No glitches or stutters or anything.
So what is going on I wonder? If there is an external drive issue, why are recordings fine but live TV is faltering? It is obviously related to the real time recording of live TV, as it gets “stuck” in a playback loop that is difficult to get out of.
Sorry, that stinks. For comparison, we haven’t seen this happen again since it occurred that one day, on Nov 5th. Our Tablo is active from around noon to 9:00 PM CST M-F and much less on the weekends.
Just an update. This seems to only happen on my Google TV in my living room. My FireTV stick on the bedroom TV is fine. Perhaps it’s an issue with the Google TV version of the Tablo app?
in my case, it happens on an older Roku. I have tried re-powering the Roku and after Rebooting, I restart the tablo app and then navigate to the problem live channel, but it’s still doesn’t clear the error. The tablo device continues to feed the same loop over and over. However, if I re-power the tablo unit The Roku box will eventually figure out the tablo went off-line And a message will appear onthe screen saying it can’t find the tablo. But if I do nothing and wait a little longer for the tablo to reboot The live channel will resume by itself Without errors automatically.
This problem does not have anything to do with reception, Internet speed, lan bandwidth, or the channel you’re watching Or even what time of day. for me, it has happened more frequently on the science channel, but it’s occurs on ABC and any other live channel at any time. I frequently leave the TV running in live mode for days at a time on the same channel without problems and then out of the blue, it will start repeating a segment over and over, I have yet to determine What triggers this condition.
I restarted all the various bits from cold and it seemed to clear some of it. It still happens about once an hour or so when just watching live tv casually. Sometimes if I just let it repeat over and over it randomly corrects itself. However, when it finally stumbles back to life it is way behind the live transmission. Then if I exit the program and jump back in, it goes back to the live feed in real time.
This is obviously a problem with it recording while watching live so you can pause or whatever.
I should add … I’ve never seen it do this on recordings. My wife records lots of shows, and she hasn’t seen it either.
My current workaround is to simply flip over to the TV tuner when I’m watching live TV. I have coax to my TVs for this very reason. I guess I’m using Tablo for the guide and for recordings these days.
I understand the frustration and do the same thing. Oddly, This problem always shows up exactly when there’s something important I wanna watch. I used to go back to antenna, but I found that just replugging the power will automatically reset the device, reconnect with roku, and then resume the same live TV channel correctly without pushing any buttons. A network connection lost message will appear, but it resolves itself if you do nothing.
The past few days I’ve seen this happen on both the Google TV and FireTV stick versions of the Tablo client app. It has not improved. My wife mentioned today that she has still not seen it happen even once when playing any of her many recordings. Like 20 or more in the last couple of weeks.
There are 3 elements of this I’m nearly certain of:
It is “triggered” by random live TV RF signal “trash” that is very difficult to eliminate 100% when watching live TV, especially in adverse conditions.
This same “trash” is ignored by all 4 of my TVs internal live TV tuners, and also in Tablo recordings. It simply appears as a “blip” or minor pixelation on screen, after which the program simply continues normally.
It is somehow related to simultaneous “real time” recording while watching live TV (which enables live TV pause/rewind). This causes the Tablo app to get stuck in a weird “replay loop” that each time progresses up to the signal “trouble spot”, and then loops back a few seconds to play up to that spot again … over and over.
I either restart the Tablo app (if I can get out), or just switch to the TV tuner to finish watching the program.
If I was the Tablo app developer, I would change the coding logic to simply “reset” at the end of a rough spot, and continue forward from there. It seems the current logic is “rewind the simultaneous recording a bit and try to play through the bad spot” which loops over and over. Wrong logic IMHO.
