Brief audio and video drop outs...during commercials!

Loving TabloTV so far – it’s encouraged me to cut the cord completely – but I have a strange issue.

Running the TabloTV app off Roku into the living room TV with an excellent Wi-Fi connection. During the show’s commercial breaks or sometimes on the transition back (which has a series recording set, btw) the screen goes dark with no audio for a second or two. It usually happens 2-3 times during the breaks.

What’s bizarre is that it only seems to affect this particular TV, and it only drops out during commercials. I’ve been worrying it will interrupt the show itself, but it’s it’s always the commercial breaks.

I took a video of the behavior, but I’m not sure how to attach it here. Has anyone experienced this behavior before?

I recall similar dropouts. I do not recall how many TV stations did this, but I do know I have the problem on youtube too sometimes. So in my case it does not seem to be a problem specifically with the tablo app.

That is really strange. I have not heard of that before. Also, I don’t think that the Tablo knows the difference between programs and commercials. Just out of curiosity, when it drops out do you get the swirling arrow, and when it comes back, does it feel like it backed up a few seconds? If so, that is buffering, and it is an indication that it is looking for a slightly faster network connection.

Thanks for the reply.

There is no swirling arrow, and it appears to skip ahead to wherever it should have been at that time, e.g., “From sunny beaches to…… all in West Texas.”

I’ll try playing the show this evening on another TV/device and see if it’s really isolated to the device or if something is in the channel broadcast itself.

We saw this issue with our Roku Ultra 4850X which made watching shows a PITA - specifically CBS in the D/FW market. This didn’t only occur during commercials, but in the middle of shows.

We decided to switch to the Fire Stick Max which worked for a while, but now this Fire Stick has problems of its own - slowing down, difficulty loading, and randomly restarting the TabloTV app. Now working through these issues.

Oh, funny, that you mentioned CBS and DFW. I’m seeing this behavior on CBS in DFW while watching Wheel of Fortune.

I had a mix of Fire Sticks and Rokus, and I moved 100% to Roku over the last year, but now I’m regretting that decision given the compatibility issues and missing features with the Roku Tablo App.

Sorry to hear about this issue. Here’s a post with some additional information from some others in the D/FW market regarding this same issue.

Thanks for pointing to the thread, wysiwyggin.

I confirmed it’s a problem on all shows (again, never during the main programming, just the breaks) and all TVs on this channel. That thread indicates pixelation vs. the dropouts I’m seeing, but there is obviously some odd issue with the feed on this local CBS channel.

I may try an ONN device just to see how it behaves – perhaps it can handle whatever fluctuations contained in the signal better than Roku.
