Bluetooth issues

This post is referring to the Tablo app within Roku. Latest updates installed. I’ve tried unsuccessfully to get the bt headphones to work with Tablo through Roku. 2 sets of headphones through external Bluetooth and Roku Bluetooth . Says it’s connected but no sound. If I switch to any different app then all is fine. I.e. Hulu. What’s most interesting if I use the Tablo app through the Sony Bravia tv I get the audio. It seems it is just on the Roku / Tablo app.

Anyone else have this issue? Known bug?

I haven’t heard of this one, but then again, I haven’t seen any other comments from people using Bluetooth headphones. My guess is that this is related to the Roku OS14 bug that has been discussed here for about a month. I do know that that bug is somehow related to sound, because the workaround that fixes it for many users is to change the sound settings on the Roku. I have no idea if it will work for you, but you can try it:

In the settings for the Roku device, go to Audio → Digital Output Format → Custom, then make sure Dolby Digital is selected for the Dolby section. Can leave DTS off. Then go back to the Tablo app and try again.

For some, this solves the problem. For others, they get picture, but no sound.

Let us know if this helps.

I had the same issue, and it was only for over the air content, whether live or recorded. No Bluetooth sound from Roku. The streaming content from the internet, live or recorded had Bluetooth sound. I tried troubleshooting all the Roku sound settings to no avail.

I bought a Fire TV Stick 4K for $27.99 at BestBuy, and the Tablo app is much better than Roku, and Bluetooth works on over the air, or internet content. Tablo loads instantly on the Fire Stick, and navigation is really quick. The Roku app is much slower to load or navigate. I have always loved Roku, but this experience has sold me on the Fire Stick.

One thing to note is that when the Fire TV Stick is behind the TV, Bluetooth can be a little choppy, but I had the same issue with Roku, if it wasn’t within line of sight. I have an HDMI switcher in from of my TV with the Fire Stick plugged in there. Bluetooth works very well with this setup.

The fact that the problem appeared only for OTA content but not FAST content, makes me all the more convinced it is the Roku OS14 bug.
