Missed a news report and wanted to back up the show and tape from where I backed up. Is this doable?
I don’t think that is possible with the Tablo. When I had Dish Network, that is how their system worked. …you could rewind, pause, then select ‘Record’, which would start to record from that spot in the show.
I wanted to post that in the feature requests section but never got around to it. I would like to see that feature implemented. It seems very intuitive and natural to work that way.

I also had Dish, and IIRC, I think that if you were watching something and pressed record where you are at, it would automatically record from the point it first started buffering the show.

Many years ago I used a Philips HRDW-720. It has an always on buffer. The benefit of which was that if you pressed the record button in the middle of the show, it would not simply record from that point forward, but would go back as far as it could in the buffer.
On many occasions I would tune to a channel before a show started with the intention of simply watching the show and, at some point during the show I decided I wanted to record it. Pressing record part-way through the show resulted in a recording of the entire show. This would even work if tuning in part of the way through, so if I tuned to a show at 1:10 pm for a show that began at 1:00 pm and pressed the record button at 1:25 pm, the saved recording would start at 1:10 pm.
