ATSC 3.0 Stations in D/FW area

I’m looking at RabbitEars.info and I’m only seeing channels 22 (KNAV-LD/PBS) and 49 (KSTR-DT/FOX) broadcasting ATSC 3.0 in this area. Is this correct? Anyone have a working ATSC 3.0 tuner in this area and are they working? I just want to know the status in this area and whether or not I should be shopping.

IMHO, not nearly enough content to warrant early (likely expensive) adoption. I think you’ll be happier if you wait (possibly many many years).

The FCC has been taking input on ATSC 3.0/DRM/Sunset/NAB/etc for around 3-4 months. Their cycle for rulings is usually 6 months. I would wait like everyone one else for the ruling.

I purchased a Zinwell 600B ($99) a few months ago to evaluate whether it was “safe”… I’m about 20 miles from the transmitters (Midway Road and Northwest Highway. Rooftop antenna 30’ AGL)

KNAV 22 is a LPTV station that I used to receive just fine when it was ATSC 1. Not now. The signal doesn’t lock and when there is a picture it’s “a picture” not video.

KSTR 49 lighthouse is rubbish. Two Spanish language channels (si hablo Espanol) along with FOX and CW.

DRM on FOX and the a/v is out of sync. Audio is echo/tunnel sound. No response from them at all on how to get a decent signal.

Unimas just turned on DRM but I didn’t reconnect the Zinwell to test it.

When the lighthouse is down they’re all done as in bad weather. The same thing is true for KNAV.

No backup auxiliary transmitters. Dead and done.

The last round of thunderstorms wiped out all eight channels.

Ya, I think I’ll pass for now. It doesn’t sound like much going on in the area. Thanks for the good info.

Thanks. Tyler’s video is what prompted my query. We’re perfectly happy with what we have with ATSC 1.0.

I just connected the Zinwell 600B ($99) to see if anything changed. Full rescan obtained 143 channels…

Status quo except Unimas is DRM and works perfectly. FOX and PBS are unwatchable.

Total ATSC 3 channels: 3 viewable. Two Spanish and CW.

More in the continuing saga…

I reconnected the Zinwell 600B again the other day and got a webpage error on FOX*NG. Since then FOX has been functioning correctly. I guess it thinks the Internet is down.

So 4 channels on the lighthouse working well. Two with DRM.

KNAV 22 still is too weak. It scans and locks but can’t gather enough photons to assemble a signal.

But there are other plans for ATSC 3.0 also.

It’s just been reported that KUVN*NG has turned on DRM encryption.

Leaving the CW.

Yes, KNAV is still actively broadcasting unencrypted ATSC3, it’s KERA’s 4 programs in HEVC 720p60 w/ AC3 (not AC4) audio, with Kids/Create/World being very obvious 480i upscales.
