I just joined the forum today, this is my first post.
I saw that the 4th Gen Tablo app for the AppleTV just became available. I downloaded the app to my AppleTV device and it seems to work fine so far except for one thing.
First, a little background. I have two 4-tuner Tablos, each is uniquely named. Maybe I’m lucky but I haven’t had any issues with the units thus far other than my own ignorance.
The app is loaded on a Samsung TV, some Apple devices and a couple of Roku Ultras.
Here’s the issue:
With any of the Tablo apps on my devices I am able to switch between the two Tablo devices with no issues. Not so with the AppleTV version. I go to settings, navigate to the “Switch Tablo” option, it shows the Tablo I am currently connected to, I tell it to switch, it says it is searching and comes back to the settings screen and it didn’t switch; it still shows connected to the same Tablo. It switches just fine on the other devices, but not on the AppleTV.
I realize the Tablo AppleTV version just got released so this just may be a bug. Has anyone else seen this problem yet? Please advise…
If selecting the Switch Tablo button simply brings you back to the same unit, then the Apple TV is not able to see your other Tablo. It’s possible that it may be how it’s connected to your network versus your other devices that are able to switch to it.
Would you be able to describe how your network is set up? (eg If your Tablos are Wi-Fi or ethernet connected, and how your Apple TV is connected). Also of note would be if you have your Wi-Fi on two bands (2.4 and 5 GHz), or just one.
Thanks for your reply. I had similar thoughts that because of my network configuration this could cause the issue I am experiencing. This is likely the case but I will need to dig deeper to figure it out. What doesn’t make sense is that the other devices can see both Tablos but the Tablo app on the AppleTV only sees one of the Tablos.
I will look into this further and report my findings as time permits.
Could you DM us the SID of the Tablo that can’t be found by your Apple TV app? It’s the number on the bottom of the unit that starts with “5087”. We may be able to do some digging on our end.
@Booter I am having the same issue with both of my Gen 4 Tablos (both are connected by ethernet) not switching on Apple TV but easily switch on Roku, Fire, Chromecast with Google TV, and my phone.
I am working with @TabloForumAdmin at this time attempting to resolve the issue. Your symptoms seem the same as mine. Being that this AppleTV version just became officially available it may be a bug in the app or something specific to AppleTV’s.
I will advise on this thread as I learn more.
That site has never worked for me. I have 3 Tablos - one Legacy Quad Network Connected and the two Gen 4 Tablos. But in the 4 or 5 years I’ve had Tablos, this website has never worked for me.
I can see both Gen 4s on my phone & Roku (and Fire and Chromecast with Google TV). However, I can not see them on my Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2021), or Apple TV HD (2015). I have rebooted the router. I did a factory reset on one of the Apple TVs. I then set that Apple TV up under a different Appleid. It also only connected to my newest Tablo and does not see my other Gen 4 Tablo.
The Tablo status link worked fine for me and I DM’d the screenshots to the admin. I was also contacted by someone from Tablo via email advising they have opened a ticket on this issue and would like to work with me to help debug a few things. I told them I would help. I also posted this issue on facebook at the “Tablo 4th Gen Tips, Tricks and Workarounds” private group. Someone at that group is having the same issue.
I am now working with the developer of the Tablo AppleTV app.
He will be setting things up so he can receive logs of events from my device.
Once that’s ready, I’ll put the device through its paces and send the log results to him for scrutiny. We’ll see how it goes…
@TabloTV Safari would not pull up the my status page. I decided to try it with Edge and it did pull up there. Interesting that on the same computer it displays on one browser but not another.
Have been working last night and this morning with the Tablo AppleTV app developer. After a fair amount of testing and back forth interactions it was determined this looks like a bug in the app. The developer pushed through a couple of builds that I installed on my AppleTV. The second build did the trick. I can now see both Tablos and switch between them. I can also play live channels OK on both Tablos. Looks to be fixed with this latest build. The developer told me he will prepare a build for the App Store which we can all access when it becomes available. I assume I will be advised by the developer when the App Store has the latest and greatest build available. I will in turn post that information on this thread.
@Booter I don’t see that build available in TestFlight.
@TabloTV@TabloEngineering Considering I brought this issue up over 12 days ago about not being able to switch between the two Tablo devices, I’m really not happy that Tablo seems to have completely ignored when I shared this issue with them almost 2 weeks ago but suddenly responds here to someone else. Perhaps this issue would have been resolved already if my concerns had actually been pursued instead of ignored.
@MonkeyMom
The developer put V 1.4.5 (4) out on TestFlight earlier today for me to test switching between Tablos.
Worked just fine.
I would imagine the production release will be available soon on the App Store, probably 1.4.5.
I will advise on this thread (assuming I am advised).
