Puzzle on this for a bit. They (NexgenTV as controlled by the broadcasters) could end the nonsense today… but they won’t. There’s billions of dollars already lost…
So, the question is… why not end the madness?
There’s a stench on this. “I have a bad feeling about this.”
More in the continuing saga…
One word… GREED! Broadcasters will do anything they can to increase revenue, including shooting themselves in the foot! Lets hope the OTA viewing public revolt and refuse to buy ATSC/DRM devices and then watch their revenues go down the toilet!
You hit the nail right on the head. DRM is about corporate greed.
I’m going to say “no”. Why? Because DRM doesn’t stop the major profit making criminals from continuing to do illegal rebroadcasts. It only affects the end user’s ability to record and use OTA content. Broadcaster’s hated prior rules from long long long time ago, and they have a huge axe to grind. My take. DRM only hurts the normal law abiding user.
I believe I will say No to DRM also. My market is probably a few years away from having one of the major affiliates flip to ATSC 3. I already don’t watch a ton of OTA content. What I do record, I can source on streaming. I just have to put up with some ads.
No matter how badly they want to control us, they are still dependent on our eyeballs in the end.
