Aggravated is putting it lightly

I bought a Tablo 4th gen over a year ago. Got it set up, later added a USB drive. I wish I could say it always works great, but sometimes it’s terrible. I have it connected to wifi and I have very stable fast fiber internet and wifi is very robust. Bought the awesome antenna from Televes. So today I decided to finally hook it up to ethernet to see if it would help the frequent glitches we have. Followed Tablo’s steps to get it going and nothing. Would not work. Tried it over 10 times, no go. Called customer service that claims live help 7 days a week and got an AI robot that told me to do the same thing I have already done 17 times. So I checked the ethernet cable with my laptop just to make sure it wasn’t bad and it wasn’t. So I factory reset it, went through all the steps and voila, same thing, would not find the Tablo and WILL NOT. So I guess I am out of luck because I have seen others complain about ethernet ports going bad, and I reckon mine was bad from the time I bought it because it’s never had a cable plugged into it before today. I hate to but I am about ready to go back to YouTube tv but hate to pay their ridiculous rates. And since it’s over a year old, there won’t be a replacement for a defective product.

Does the Tablo show up in your router table when its connected via Ethernet? If you get it working with the wire, then make sure you also check your streaming device(s) wifi as well.

Reminder that your fast fiber Internet (WAN) and wifi (LAN) are two different things. If I’m not mistaken, the Tablo relies mostly on your LAN.

The wifi is fine, I stream Fubo, Pluto, Kodi etc with never any problems. No the Tablo WON’t connect by ethernet at all. Until I factory reset it it stayed connected to wifi. I use Ubiquiti Unify for my network so you can see extensively what each device is doing. Of course I realize LAN and WAN are two different things. The Tablo, connects to the LAN and in turn connects to the WAN back to Tablo’s servers.

I should have realized that you weren’t asking for help.

Alrighty then. Thx.

I could be that it is “stuck” in your Ubiquiti network and trying to keep the IP dress assigned to it from your original setup. Can you see if it is still “connected” to your existing LAN and remove it, then restart your fiber, router and Tablo (wired into your router) to see if it picks up the wired connection?

Maybe that could work, and appreciate it. Thinking seriously of chucking it in the garbage and get a HomeRun Flex and be done with it. Not sure yet but once I get less aggravated I may try that advice and see. The ip addressing is done by DHCP so it “should” grab one, but I do know some things do get stuck.

Thanks for the replies, I decided to buy a HomeRun Flex 4k and gonna try that.

Please send me your Tablo if you don’t want it.

Did you try My Status - Tablo TV to see if the tablo servers even knows about your device and what LAN IP address they think it is using.

And I don’t think IPV4 and VLANS work.

yep, it’s there and has the same ip it has had. 10.0.0.80

How about this feature.

Ubiquiti’s UniFi platform allows you to prevent devices on the same Local Area Network (LAN) or wireless network from accessing each other. The exact settings depend on how your devices are connected

I agree. But send it to me and I’ll see it’s disposed of sustainably…

I asked for it first if he truly wants to “chuck” it.

I use that feature on my IoT and guest VLANS but not on my default network, which the Tablo is connected to the default network.

Please let us know your experience with HomeRun Flex 4k. I would love to hear a comparison.

Not that I doubt you, but I have had very few problems with my Gen4 Tablo 4-tuner. Still, I would love to see a good comparison from someone who has used both.

Supposed to be here today. Will update once I have it going for a week or so. It’s for sure the ethernet port is bad. I know there are lots of folks like yourself that haven’t had any problems but I have also seen in these threads where lots of people do.

Is that IP address within your local IP range?

LOL, of course. It wouldn’t work at all if it wasn’t.

Currently trying to resurrect my Tablo gen 4 (successfully, it seems), due to switching back to Sling TV. Sling TV has several annoying program guide bugs associated with their Apple TV app that they’ve not fixed for a LONG time. Roku, on the other hand, apparently gets the deluxe treatment from Sling TV, and works well on that platform. I understand the economics of Roku putting their support into the biggest selling platform, but, in my opinion customer satisfaction should count for something as well.

Anyways, I’ve been using the HDhomerun Flex Quatro and the Channels DVR with the Apple TV’s for some time now, and it iworks really well. Haven’t run into any bugs yet, has all the functionality that I expect, including being able to watch a program that’s still recording from the beginning on the Apple TV. Never end up losing contact with the Silicon Dust servers, or my streaming box not being able to find the OTA hardware, etc. Like it a lot more than the Tablo, but HDhomerun and Roku don’t play together well, unfortunately.

So I’m faced with a difficult choice, use the Tablo that’s buggy, and not have bugs in the Sling TV app, or enjoy using the Apple TV’s with the HDhomerun and live with the Sling TV program guide bugs. Haven’t decided which way I’ll go, but a few days of going back to the Tablo after a couple of years on the HDhomerun and Channels DVR has reminded me of how valuable stable software is to piece of mind.

Too bad there’s not a single solution that would get me both an OTA DVR and Sling TV that work well and have minimal bugs.
